"When She Sleeps Through the Night..."

This was our joke - we'd consider a second when DD sleeps through the night.  HAH!

I might still be on the fence about a second, but I am SO OVER not ever getting more than 5 hours of continuous sleep.  I get plenty overall - if I'm not a moron staying up late looking at Super Bowl memes (hey, my team did just win!) and watching hilarious ping-pong games (yes, really... but it was hilarious, and I needed a good laugh - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITR88wT8ekM#t=329).

DD has an *amazing* ability to wake up and call me at whatever point in time most neatly slices my sleep time so that I cannot get consecutive sleep.  Whether it's 1am (and then she wakes early) or 2am (and she wakes normally) or 3am (and I've gone to bed late).... it's like she KNOWS when I've hit a good stride in my sleep and says "oh no, mommy needs to do that in here next to me".

BAH!

Well, at least her bed is comfy and the covers are warm.

Re: "When She Sleeps Through the Night..."

  • I have no idea how you do it!  I was such a zombie for DS's first year, but he started STTN consistently at 12 months.  Now I only hear from him when he is sick.

The sleep deprivation is one reason I cannot do it again.  The thought of getting one kid STTN only to start all over again is terrifying - I don't know how 2u2 parents do it!

  • "Pssh, this one has to sleep through the night first." was my standard response to people asking when we were going to have another for a long time. Thankfully he started STTN around 18mo, though he does still have his off nights.

Interupted sleep/lack of sleep is no joke. There's a reason sleep deprivation is used as a torture device! Learning how poorly I do when sleep deprived has been a big reason I want to be OAD.

I only watched about 5 min of that ping pong match, but it was pretty entertaining... :)

  • My LO has been STTN for about a month now.  YIPPEE!!  Okay I will be honest, I have to go replace the paci at least once but I don't have to be fully awake to do that.  But I do have to be fully awake to pump.  My supply has dropped since we weaned the night feedings.  So I have to pump between 2-4 every morning to have enough to send to daycare.  4 more months and then I will stop pumping.  4 more months.  4 more months.  I need sleep.  I am tired of being sick all the time.

  • @OhBenji - she just wants comfort. She's been making steady, if extremely slow, progress towards getting better sleep. Heck, we had two or three weeks where I thought STTN was about to be at least a 50% chance on any given night. But then she got a cold, and has the lingering sniffles. Since I'm not going to just turn the monitor off (and I could hear her through the wall if she was yelling loud enough anyway), I get more sleep if I just go in and lay down. She and I go right back to sleep. So, I am still choosing to do this. But in also still choosing to go to bed way the f u c k late, which is just dumb on my part.

And thanks. I think she's cute, but am hopelessly biased. :)

@Tink112011 - that's what my husband says; it's a good reason to be OAD. He ain't wrong!

@rocknrollfriend - I also give that reason if anyone asks. They usually stop asking questions, and look confused, given her age. :P

@aimee444 - ugh! Pumping in the middle if the night would kill me. Having to be that awake! I hope that four months goes quickly!!

@jkep5909 - ah yes, diapers. Another reason to be OAD. But I have liked most everything from two on, outside of the sleep stuff.
