Has anyone worn thigh highs?

I wish this were for sexy purposes. I need pantyhose for tomorrow - completely forgot to order a pair of maternity ones. Has anyone worn thigh highs before? Do they stay up? I am not very tall, so I'm also nervous I won't be able to pull them up all the way.

Re: Has anyone worn thigh highs?

  • I haven't worn thigh highs, but do you have a Target nearby? I got maternity tights last week on clearance for $7 for a black tie event we had to go to this weekend. They were surprisingly comfortable!

  • I second the target ones. I have black and nude ones and love them. My thighs would not be conducive to keeping hoes up right now.

I wear them all the time, pregnant and not. Love them WAY more than tights or nylons. I've always followed the package sizing guidelines - giving preference to height over weight, if there isn't a size that encompasses both for me (I'm 5'11" and have freakishly long legs, hence that decision). I've never, never, never had a pair fall down. And I buy everything from the cheapies at Macy's (usually Berkshire) to the nicer ones (VS or Wolford). And depending on comfort and outfit, I've positioned them anywhere from way the hell up on my thighs to just above my knees. That stickum on the band, plus getting the right size, makes them do what they're meant to!
  • I'm 5'3" and wore them about a month ago for this exact reason. They worked perfect! Stayed up just fine.

  • I'm pretty tall and skinny, and while I haven't tried them during pregnancy, I hate them pre-pregnancy; I've never found some that stay up.

  • Ooh! And if there's a Motherhood Maternity or Pea In the Pod near you, they sell maternity nylons and tights in the store. (At least in DC.) I just bought black nylons there a few weeks ago and they fit well and are really comfy.
  • Yep, worn all kinds. If you don't want to wear a garter belt be sure to get the kind that doesn't require one...they will have a rubber lining on the top to keep them up. I tried the maternity tights from motherhood and even in the largest size they were uncomfortably tight.

I'm 5'9" and pre-pg about 145 lbs but I'll always buy at least a size or two up so they aren't too tight or cause muffin-tops on my thighs. never had problems with them falling down.

  • I had a situation last time where I didn't think ahead and needed pantyhose for work but didn't have maternity ones. I bought a bigger size in normal ones and cut a slit in the top that was about 3-4 inches long. If it is a one shot deal to wear them, this worked well enough and cost way less than maternity specific ones! I wouldn't do it daily because they did roll down a bit, but honestly it was less than I expected them to!
  • I used to wear them all the time, and they stayed up.  But I will say I noticed a big difference when I was heavier than when I was thinner.  They stay up much better when your legs are more toned....it's not like they were falling down all the time when I was heavier, but I definitely had to keep pulling them up through out the day, and they kind of dug into my skin.

Do you really need maternity tights?  I wore tights to my shower the other day and just wore regular ones.  I just didn't attempt to pull them up over my belly, nor did I see any reason to.

  • I haven't had a reason to wear them while pregnant, but they are my regular go to when I can't get away with bare legs and self tanner.

  • Thanks y'all. I just ran to Target and got some thigh highs. I checked to see if they had maternity before I went but nothing was in stock. Unfortunately the only colors they had are too dark, so I'm a bit worried I will look silly.

@clo1982 and @ angelsnight - I will try a pair of my regular ones if these don't cut it. I was worried it wouldn't work b/c my dress I'm wearing it with isn't very structured. So I didn't want lines from the hose waist that isn't pulled up. But I will definitely try cutting them too. Thanks!
  • if you are swelling at all I would highly recommend against thigh highs unless they are non banded with a garter....otherwise I would suggest maternity leggings (or non control top stockings that are low rise)

No swelling besides increased fat, so I'm good there. I looked all over for non-control top. My Target just didn't have anything in stock!
  • When not pregnant I wear thigh highs. I'm not super skinny either, I have more muscular thighs and they have never fallen down at all.

But I got double-stuffed oreos. So that makes everything all better.

I heard on the radio this morning that Oreo released two new flavors today... cookie dough and marshmallow.  :)

I agree with @vanessabee. I'm a fan and the thigh band generally has silicone on it, so they don't fall down. I've only worn Berkshire and Victoria's Secret. VS is better in my opinion.
