Funny Stories - DS loves looking at catalogs. He was checking out the Williams-Sonoma catalog this weekend and they have chicken coops (!) for sale for those people who apparently have the time, land and energy to be urban farmers in their spare time and put chickens in their back yard. DS of course asked about what this was and DH told him it is for people to put chickens in their back yard. DS of course goes and looks out the back window into our back yard...which is tiny. So DH says that our back yard is too small for chickens. DS thinks about this for a moment and then replies that "chickens are good for Grandma's yard" (which would be true inasmuch as her yard is much bigger than ours). So I got to tell my mother that DS volunteered her to raise some chickens!
Challenges - We started some initial "casual" potty training when DS showed interest, and he was doing pretty darn well with peeing in the potty, but in the last 3-4 days he doesn't want to use the potty at all (he even says "no more potty. at all.") We finally cleared a horrific diaper rash after 7 weeks of badness, so we were really hoping we were moving away from diapers and avoiding those rashes. He's also still really fragile and freaked by certain noises (like Sophie squeaking) including those he has heard before without a problem but has not heard for a while (we rotated his FP zoo out of the basement last week and he teared up when he heard the first animal sound - but that improved after a day or so).
Favorites - DS loves books and his favorite changes by the week. Lately he is into "If you take a mouse to school" and "The Gruffalo". He also likes to play "Kitty's House" which means playing with an adult like DH or me and building structures with Duplo blocks - all of which become the house of "kitty", the Duplo cat figure. He would do this for hours on end if he had his way.

Any funny stories this week? Challenges? Milestones?
DS has really gotten into "taking pictures" - he will pretend that anything is a camera and tell me to say cheese. Well, I was getting out of the shower this weekend and I wasn't paying attention to what he was doing - and he says "Say cheese mommy!", had my cell phone in hand, ON THE CAMERA....taking naked pictures of me. I thought I was going to die. Luckily he didn't upload anything to social media or anything like that, but it was definitely interesting - and I had to explain to him why we don't take pictures when we're naked. So that's fun. And side note: especially no naked PREGNANT pictures.
Does your LO have a favorite book? Favorite activity?
As far as books, he has been reading his Thomas the Train ones a lot lately, and there is apparently a book at his daycare called "No David" that he is obsessed with (we don't have it at home though). His favorite activity currently is hitting tee ball - we have the little plastic one and he is really, really into hitting the balls right now. DH is loving this b/c he is a huge baseball guy and coaches.
Any funny stories this week? Challenges? Milestones? Ok, well aside from the flame worthy part that my toddler gets spanked (not really, just a firm pop on the diaper to let him know when we are being serious), he has developed significant climbing skills that now pose a threat to his safety. So yesterday after climbing and standing up on the coffee table for the fifth time, and using a rolling tonka truck as his step stool, when he refused to get down, I put him on the floor, gave him a very firm "No", explained that his behavior is dangerous, and then spanked him once. Well I'm never sure when he going to cry or not so I watched him closely and he proceeded to bend over, stick his booty out and laugh while continuing to slap his own behind over and over. So much for effective discipline.....
Milestones. Speech has really taken off in the last couple of weeks. We went from just a tiny handful of words to small sentences. My favorite is when he shrugs his shoulders, turns both hands palm up and runs around the house looking for something saying, "where is it?" over and over and over.
Does your LO have a favorite book? Favorite activity?
Favorite book right now is a picture book where every set of pages has a different color theme. Mostly he likes to point out all of the objects that he knows. All animals land and sea are doggies.

Funny story from today: I was on a walk with both DS and our dog (Jack). Leash in one hand, DSs hand in the other. At one point (ok several points, lol) the dog tangles the leash around me as DS is pulling the other way. Picture me with my arms crossed ala the scarecrow in Wizard of Oz. I get the leash untangled and the dog is pulling up the street as DS is pulling down the street. Exasperated, I turn to DS and say, "Jack...er, Dylan...whomever you are...lets go this way" My man of few words blurts out, "I Didan" (Didan=Dylan) followed by lots of giggles.
Challenges...Mostly the usual. Walking the line between pushing him with his language and meltdowns. Ive also been feeling stuck in a rut in terms of things to do with him. Things like bounce houses and indoor play places dont work for us right now (his lack of response to his name + my 3rd tri belly + deployed DH=nobody to run in after him). Any suggestions?
Milestones...I am calling him being able to handle a small museum (think mini aquarium) sans stroller a big win. As was him looking at what I pointed to and actually looking at the fish.
Book? This week it is "Go Dog Go"
Activities? This week his faves have included eating snow and climbing on furniture in ways I never fathomed.
Funny story: Last night DD stole my phone and face timed grandma all by herself! She plays with my phone all the time, but I don't realize what she had open until I heard ringing. She's such a smarty pants
Challenges: just normal toddler stuff and keeping my cool when she throws her 10th tantrum of the day.
Milestones: Her two favorite words right now are hug and kiss. Yesterday she saw a wedding picture of DH and I kissing. She pointed to it and said kiss and then pulled me in for a big, wet, open mouth kiss! lol
Books: DD loves books. Her faves right now are "Wide awake Jake", "if I were a jungle animal", "Corduroy", "Five little monkeys sitting in a tree", and anything with Mick and Minnie Mouse.
Activities: For outings we do swim lessons, Kindermusik, go to the indoor play ground at the mall, story time, and read books at the library. They have a train table, iPads, and blocks at the library, too, that she loves. For at home activities, I've been hitting Pintrest up a lot for ideas. We play with play dough, stickers, pipe cleaners, water in the sink, cornmeal and small toys in a bin, and coloring books.

Love the story! That's so cute!
Maybe for an activity, try swim lesson. I loved going in the pool in the third tri because it lifted all the weight of my bump off of me. I remember it felt soooo good! And also, no run away toddler because you're right there with him helping him learn to float, kick, and blow bubbles.

Funny story: I think I'm going to win the toddler bed argument with DH. DH wants to contain DS in his crib as long as possible by putting the mattress on the floor and keeping him in the crib. So DS has figured out how to climb out of it like a monkey and without injuring himself. We heard his baby gate fall this morning and he greeted us in bed very early.
Challenges: Just the normal stuff with us. I work with DS everyday to expand his vocabulary, some days he does really well-other days it's a string of tantrums because I can't understand him. He is getting better and he's starting to put together small sentences. Brushing his teeth is like torture still though-he's very funny about textures in his mouth.
Milestones:
He wants to be big. He now refuses any booster seats when we go out. It is hilarious. He also tries to drink my diet coke. The scary part is I think he likes it.
Books: DS loves his books. His favorites have been "What's Following Us" and anything "Clifford" although there's something about Emily Elizabeth I don't like.
Activities: We've been doing a lot of activities to work with his sensory issues. Things like making pizza and cookies, playing with play dough, and this week we are going to do finger paints with things like sand and glitter in them. DH will be thrilled. We also do the run of the mill stuff like water color paint, coloring (we even do a lot with bath crayons), and playing with blocks. We try to go out with him at least once a week to do mexican since that is his favorite. It's also an easy environment to get him to try new foods. I'm hoping (weather permitting) to get him to our local children's museum, since he has a great time every time we go.I really want to avoid watching a marathon of MMCH and Doodlebops this weekend.

Now when we ask DD what sound a dinosaur makes, she roars. It's pretty much the greatest.
Our challenges are just attitude. DD is generally a very sweet girl, but when she's in a mood, she's in a MOOD. Cooking dinner is always a challenge, because she knows that's what I'm doing and wants to eat NOW. She'll follow me around the kitchen and walks back and forth in front of me when I'm preparing stuff on the counter and cooking on the stove, whining the whole time. I shouted at her the other day and felt AWFUL, but none of my tricks are working. She has a couple of special toys in the kitchen that she plays with, and her own little cupboard to climb in and out of. I've given her a little bit of food or a small snack to try to tide her over, but I don't want to give her too much because I do want her to learn to be patient. Maybe a bigger lunch? I don't know.
Lately she's been obsessed with And the Train Goes... by William Bee. DH has to read it to her every night at bedtime, and she still goes to it all throughout the day and asks me to read it. I can see now how even books we love will be read so many times we'll never want to read them again.
DD loves her play kitchen and if you ask her to make you a sandwich she will go and get the play sandwich stuff and bring it to you. She also loves playing in and out with everything, dumping and filling, and pom poms. I made her a pom pom push toy that she just wants to do over and over again.
Any funny stories this week? Challenges? Milestones?
We had our first stomach bug this weekend. I thought DD was over it by Saturday afternoon but then out of the blue she threw up all over me again on Sunday night. Fun times.
We just started a new daycare last Wednesday and this morning she cried a lot when I dropped her off. Makes me sad.
Does your LO have a favorite book? Favorite activity? Wheels on the bus is a favorite book around here. And anything with a flap.
theresat858! It took DD two weeks to stop crying at every drop off, and it was the WORST.
DD fell asleep in the car seat last night and when I bent down to take her out, I said "ohhhhh, sleepy baby," she responded with her eyes closed "baby, baby, baby." She is finally getting her third tooth, it's been two months since the second tooth came up and they both are on the bottom. The third one is the top front. Our challenges with her is getting her to drink water from a sippy or even a straw sippy. She spurts most of it out and doesn't even drink much of it to begin with.
Her favorite books are usually anything that is a word picture book, Pat the Bunny, Moo Baa La La La. I read all these books to DS so I can recite it all without looking at the pages. Favorite activity, well, she jumps from toy to toy, anything that grabs her interest. If she can reach DS' matchbox cars and Planes movie planes, she likes to make airplane sounds with the planes, but as soon as DS notices she has his things, he has a fit and takes them from her.
