Placenta Accreta

Has anybody had any experience with this condition? My doctor thinks I may have it. I've had 2 u/s and going in for a 3rd. Feeling like after 2 u/s she should know!! I live in a really small town and am driving to Portland for the 3rd u/s. Anybody???

  • Well I had retained placenta after DD and had to have a D&C.  The doctor suspected that I might have had placenta accreta since she had such a hard time scrapping the placenta but it could have been since so much time had passed already (7w pp).  I got the impression that placenta accreta can just be a little caved into the uterus so it might be hard to detect in the ultrasounds.  Because it was never noted in any of my ultrasounds.  Be happy they are just looking for it.  Even if you drive 3 hours for them to tell you you don't have it, it will be great that you will know for sure that there is nothing wrong.  Also, I think if you do have placenta accreta there are worse stages...so they would have to check that the placenta isn't going to be next stage where it goes all the way through the uterus.  I forget what it is called.

You can only detect an accerta with an mri from what I was told. My doctor told me if not doing an MRI they wouldn't know until they cut. Placenta accerta's are bad because they can grow into your previous c-section scar and your uterus and have to be cut out and a lot of people end up needed a Hysterectomy and transfusions.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
