My cleaning service came this morning. I was at home, and left about 20 minutes after they did to go pick my DS up from school. Came back home 30 minutes later and saw that one of our bushes next to the driveway had been driven right through and there are two huge ruts through our grass that are down to mud. It was raining this morning, and at some point started turning to sleet, so it may have been slippery. I did, however, get in and out just fine after they were gone. But still I am a little PO'd that I was at home and they did not say anything when it happened. No one else has come or gone in this time so it had to be them.
I left a message for the owner because I think they should pay for this. The bush will have to be replaced and the two ruts filled and reseeded. Am I being unreasonable or do you agree?
Re: Cleaning service has to pay for this, right?
Yes it is. The ruts are about 30-40 feet off of the street right next to the driveway, and then you can see the mud on the driveway farther up close to the house as they got under control and came back on the driveway. The bush that was driven through is right next to the driveway and well off the road.
I thought about that too, but when I back out, I am looking in my rearview and not down at the ground. When I was looking at the driveway to turn in on the way back, I saw it right away. That is all I can think of.
It is possible it wasn't them but since I was only gone for 30 minutes I can't believe anyone would have torn up my yard and left in that amount of time.
@cjcouple - I was wondering about it possibly being my fault if the driveway wasn't treated. It was truly just raining when they arrived though, and like I said did not seem slippery when I left.
And it is hard to explain where I am, but there really is no reason for anyone to come into my driveway to turn around. I can't believe that would have been what happened. And if someone was turning around in the driveway, there would be no reason for them to pull in that far. This was halfway up the drive. Again, hard to explain without posting pictures of my house.
Also, no deliveries today so no one else pulling in. When UPS drops off, they park on the street and walk packages up anyway - they have never pulled in.
I talked to the owner and he said they would cover it and that he would call the girl who was driving the group around today to see what they said. He said she drives a big truck so it is possible she didn't know it happened. But I can see where they went back and forth when they got stuck on/in the bush, so there is no way she didn't know.
It does seem strange that they didn't say something, but they are pretty young girls and maybe were scared to. And again, since I didn't see it, I do admit that there is a chance they didn't do it or didn't know. It just seems so unlikely that it would have been someone else.
And yes, landscaping is annoying. As it is, the plow driver trashed our tree lawn last week (the strip of grass between the curb and the yard), so we have to pay for that out of pocket. I can see where that was done on several places on our road, so I am assuming it would have had to be him.
