Ready to start weaning, any tips?

My son is 7 months and I'm ready to start the weaning process soon.  Anyone gone through this recently that can pass along some tips? This might be a dumb questions but I'm also curious about birth control.  My doctor said I could call when I was done breastfeeding and she'd write a prescription for the pill again.  How long did you ladies wait before it was completely trust worthy?  I know it can take a while to get your period (I still haven't gotten mine) and I wasn't sure if that played a roll in being able to trust BC.  In other words... if I'm on the pill but still haven't gotten my period can I trust that it's working?

Re: Ready to start weaning, any tips?

  • I weaned my son when he was 1. I was slowly dropping a nursing session. He was already taking whole milk at that time tho so I would just give him a sippy instead. He would normally just want to comfort nurse but was weaning himself.
As for birth control I was on the mini pill while nursing my son then switched to tri sprintec. I never trusted the pill 100% bc I was terrible at taking it the same time every day.
Also cabbage leaves in your bra will help with engorged breasts when weaning & taking a decongestant helps decrease your milk supply.
    Good luck!!
