Please help!

Last night around 5 I went to L&D for severe back pain and leakage. They checked me with a swab and when they did it hurt so bad, almost like a dry tampon..but worse. She then (very roughly) checked my dilation (still 2 cm 80% effaced) afterwards I tried peeing but had very serious pain from it and lots of bright red bleeding. It's been almost 12 hours later and while the pain isn't so bad anymore there is still a lot of red blood, enough to turn the toilet pink and red. They keep saying it's normal and won't see me again yet I just feel like after this much time it is not normal.

Any suggestions? Should I go to a different hospital? I'm really just worried about my baby and losing this much blood.

  • So did the hospital send you home? What did they say were the results of your swab test and urine test? Who is saying this is normal? Your OB? The hospital?

You need to call your OB and be seen again. Immediately. If your OB is dismissing you, see another in the practice immediately or turn up at L&D again. Insist on being checked for a UTI and talking to a doctor. Tell the doctor you're bleeding and in extreme pain and that urinating hurts.

  • They sent me home after talking to my OB, they said I wasn't leaking fluid and that everything was normal even after I told them how bad I was hurting and the bleeding, called them this morning and they still insisted it was okay.

I've been in there once before for false labor and they blew me off then too even though contractions were showing strong on the monitor. I have a hard time trusting them now.
  • Like prior posters have advised, I would be in contact with your OB ASAP. Go to her/his office today. Good luck.

  • I don't know what to tell you. You feel like something is wrong and don't trust them... What are we supposed to do for you? You need to advocate for yourself and stand up for yourself.

Show up at your OBs office and demand a test for a UTI. Then ask how much bright red bleeding is normal and when it should stop.

  • Did they say it could be "bloody show"? I would call your ob as well.

This.  You are practically paying for them to be your doctor.  If they refuse to see you, then that is a whole different issue.  You need to stand your ground, and tell them that you think something isn't right.  I would be PISSED if my OB blew me off.  Also, if they do, maybe try a different hospital.  All L&D are different.  So you may be able to get help elsewhere.
