Jury duty

So I called the jury services line & I have to report tomorrow. I initially had to report that Monday after I gave birth (I had Brayden on a Sunday) and they told me being in the hospital wasn't an excuse so they postponed it. Anyways I'd be glad to serve if they gave me a lactation break, which I know they won't. I drafted a letter for a request to defer my service under the AB1814 law (breast feeding & jury duty). Anyways, do you think they will ask for more proof? Should I bring Brayden's birth certificate or something like that? It's wickedly hard to get out of jury duty in Los Angeles county. I'd like to get my ass out of there in time for us to make out Mommy & me movie, Labor Day is playing!!!!

I promise I won't post any more discussions today. I'm clearly bored waiting on Bruno Mars & RHCP to do the halftime show

  • I would just in case. Also use the pump right in front of them for good measure. ;) Nah, but I do not think they will ask you anything personal.. and (don't quote me on this) but I do not think they can ask you for more proof.

  • @clandestinex I was seriously considering pumping right there or even bringing Brayden just like that woman in New Jersey did last month lol

  • Sometimes the actual judge is very sensitive to this. Bring your pump with. Tell them you will need a break to pump. My husband just had jury duty 3 weeks ago. He told the judge that he had a job interview that Friday at 9:00 am. The judge told him if the case would go that long then they'll take a short recess so he could make it to the interview.

  • @knitfaced they did have that section on my previous summons but because I "postponed" that option wasn't available. >:P

  • @Trin42 Apparently there's a loophole in the AB1814 law. If your baby is over 6 months old then you can't use breastfeeding as an excuse because they have a lactation room. I tried to postpone with the Clerk and was denied but was given the opportunity to request a deferral again with the judge. He actually let me postpone until the end of April but I was there for a long time.

  • Wow! I can't believe that exception. Glad it worked out in the end though.
