Medication Delivery Left Out in 5 Degree Temps, UGH

My big box of meds came earlier this week. FedEx never rang the bell when they came and just dropped the box on my front stoop at 9 am. All day I looked out the little window by the door and saw nothing. Finally at 6pm I opened the front door to investigate further and saw the package sitting there way off to the side and out of view of the window. When I brought the box inside all the boxes of meds were freezing cold. The temp high that day was about 5 degrees so well below freezing.

All the boxes of meds and pills say to store them between 30 and 80 degrees. I'm always a paranoid mess about my meds and having them sit outside in the very cold air for 8 hours makes me scared to inject them. I did call the pharmacy and she said she's not concerned so I shouldn't be. I know this all sounds silly, but I still can't shake the anxiety. I start my meds tomorrow am after my baseline appt.

Anyone have issues like this with their med delivery???

I had to sign for all of my med deliveries. Since they were packed in a box, they should have been insulated some. If the pharmacy isn't concerned, I would try not to be concerned either.

If you're really worried, I'd call your pharmacy and tell them what happened. Ask to speak to a pharmacist about it (not the customer service)- they aren't out to make money and want to be sure everything is right. Don't worry about it, but better safe than sorry if it's really bothering you.

All my meds come packed in ice, the label on most of them read to store them at x temperature but with excursions allowed to lower or higher temps for shorter periods of time. I would think that the only thing that might be affected is if you have any oil based products or suppositories, check with your clinic or pharmacist on those.

I agree with PP's. If the pharmacist isn't concerned, don't worry.

I have had the opposite issue- our power went out for 27 hours and I had meds (gonal-f) that required refrigeration. My pharmacist told me that as long as there were no visual changes (change in color, separation, smell) the main worry with that particular med would be a potential loss in effectiveness- basically moving the expiration date up. Most likely, your expiration dates are months if not years away so if you are using the meds for an upcoming cycle, you shouldn't have any issue.

Thanks everyone! Started my shots with microdose lupron today. So far no issues, so I'm just going with it. I now realize it was prolly just a little crazy IF panic I was having. All's good
