This story just made me a little sick. I EBF, but have no plans to do it for two years, and regardless, I feel like this law is a slap in the face to women. And a wet nurse? Geez.
As if you don't already feel guilty enough about not being able to breastfeed (if you can't), to have a law that says you have to? Or even the NYC one about making it an interrogation to get formula?
Well, I am not for a law mandating BF. But there is nothing wrong with BF until 2 and beyond. In fact, it's quite normal in most of the world.
Signed, A mom to DS1 who nursed until 2.5 (when I chose to wean him...I was tired of tandem nursing) and who is currently tandem nursing A. (almost 2) and S.

This. Where I come from it is recommended until 2 years. It is also recommended by WHO
@jupiter62, apparently he just moves to a country that thinks laws like this are acceptable. Ridiculous. (I'm happily BFing, but don't want anyone forcing that on me)
Having lived in Dubai, this really doesn't surprise me... nor does it make me miss being there. A lot of laws are crazy in the UAE, especially when you are used to western society. I'm happy to breastfeed until LO is 2, but it's nice to know that if it doesn't work out that way I'm not breaking the law.
I would be heartbroken if my husband sued me for it and if I had to watch another woman nurse my child.
Breastfeeding is great - no one can argue that. But to make a law mandating it for a certain period of time and essentially forcing wet nurses on these women is ridiculous.

Sorry if it is not clicky.
The law is crazy though.

@jupiter62 that's a good question.
Ridiculous.
