Babies on the Brain

Side eye Saturday

Haven't done one of these in a while, so here you go!

I have two. First, I am side eyeing one of my customers. We are on the verge of agreeing to a huge project with them and they keep trying to play us against each other. They have done this the whole time but now it's getting old. First, they visited with out competitor and we dropped our price to be competitive. Then they started threatening to buy part of the project from somewhere else in efforts to get a better deal (which we know they will not). Now they are telling one of my coworkers they do not like our pricing, thinking they will get something better from him. Please stop trying to screw us to get "a better deal." You will eventually end up with nothing.

Second, I am side eyeing my SIL, like always. She had ILs consign for a $16,000 car this week. She's on public assistance and can't afford a bigger place for her family, but yet needs a car that expensive. I would think having a bedroom for your child would trump buying a new car.

  • I have one that had me side eyeing one of my FB "friends". She is about 12 weeks pregnant with her first and made a comment that she was going to go in for genetic testing and a sonogram. She is having that materniT test done so she finding out what she is having. She had a ton if replies and one of her comments to everyone was this (and I will quote word for word):

"I'm just doing it because I'm impatient and want to know the gender and also I get a 3 ultrasound."

  • That makes me very irrationally angry. I wish I had all of those test and the poking for fun. Instead I had them to find out my sick baby was going to die. I wish people understood why those test are preformed and realize they aren't for fun or to find the gender.

    That's me being bitter!

Oh, I absolutely agree. A car is especially important when you have a baby! My issue here is that she had one. She just needed to have THIS one. She gets all sorts of free baby formula and other benefits, then goes and buys a car that costed more than either of my full sized trucks. Tell me that doesn't seem a bit.... Off. I know, her money her decision and I would never tell her what to do with it but stuff like that makes me a bit judgy.

@mylittlesunshine that's really special right there. Ugh.
  • It took 6 tries and 4 people to get my iv lock and blood work drawn today. I'm a freaking pin cushion and my veins aren't terrible. The nurse in me was going crazy!

  • I don't have any kids and I still balk at the idea of buying a $16,000 car! I'm looking for a reliable 5k car at most. Pay cash, no debt. I know it's not ideal for many to pay cash like that, but you can get a decent car for less than 10k.

I do sided eye women who are obsessed with the sex if their child. What's the rush of knowing sooner? You still have 7+ months before they are born.
  • @Kimbus22 my brother just bought a $70,000 Cadillac. It has a power glove box. That's right..... A power GLOVE BOX.

Seriously? That's ridiculous. I was impatient to find out too but I wouldn't want any extra tests done that weren't necessary.

I side eye women who get induced before 40 weeks with no medical reason whatsoever besides "being over being pregnant." I don't think women know how crucial it is to let the baby cook for the full 40 weeks. I was over being pregnant by 30 weeks. I was induced the day after my due date because my doctor was scared the baby would get too big for me to have naturally. And I'm not talking about women who are pregnant with multiples or have a medical issue that makes them have to have their baby early. Just the impatient ones. I think doctor's shouldn't be allowed to induce before 40 weeks and unless medically necessary.

I won't touch the car thing. I far prefer my $16,000 and $22,000 cars to my $1,000 or my $13,000 ones.  But it would be a cold day in hell before I'd buy an expensive one with help from someone else.  If you can't even afford the financing by yourself, you can't afford the car.  THAT I give a big side eye to.

I don't get people who buy $40,000 cars though, even when they can afford them. I mean, there has to be limit somewhere.  What on earth can it possibly do that makes it that much more superspecial than a $20,000 one?

Oh I'd much rather have a car that's at least 2005 or higher. But I can't go into debt for it at this moment. Something OPs sister should learn isn't the best idea. I get needing a reliable car.
  • I side eye myself for driving too fast today on the crappy roads. My car did a complete 180 on a busy road. Fortunately the curb stopped me and all other cars were far enough ahead or behind me to not get hit. In my defense, there was no ice, then suddenly, on a curve, all ice. That just looked like slush.

  • I'm side-eying my BIL for asking DH to ask me if he could borrow $500 to fix his surfboard (he's asking me because I have student loans that are just sitting in the bank right now). This is after he spent an hour on the phone with DH complaining that he had no hours at work, they were behind on their rent, and 2 months behind on all their bills. But he just simply has to have his surfboard fixed. Idiot. We said no, FYI. No way in hell.

A number of hospitals in MA instituted a voluntary "ban" on elective inductions and elective c-sections before 39 weeks. They found a significant decrease in complications and NICU time, and they are pushing to make it both wider (statewide instead of around Boston) and not voluntary.
  • @FemShep Totally off topic but I just noticed your siggy gif, and I'm not going to lie, a little squeal came out... Love those books. And now I think I'm having heart palpitations because I just googled Outlander and they're actually making a series out of it. My life is complete.

  • @yellowrose314 I may have drooled a bit when I watched the trailer. And every time I go back and look at pictures of Jamie. ;)
  • @FemShep I have watched it at least 100 times since I found it. Been waiting for this for years! I can only hope that the series does the book justice though. So far pretty darn happy with the actors they chose!

Oh, you would love my coworker.  She had a scheduled c section with her first and the doctor told her that he would schedule it for 39 weeks, which fell on a Friday.  The doctor typically does not do scheduled c sections on Friday so he wanted to schedule her for Monday.  She freaked out and was on the phone with the doctors office and hospital  everyday for like a week (I know this because she did it while at work) convincing them to do her section on Friday because couldn't possibly stand two be pregnant for 2 days extra!  She was a big enough PITA that they did it.
