Bra/Breast Confusion

So, my bra size went from a 34/36 A to a 38/40 C. I've noticed in the last week that my bra strap is tight to the point I had to get an extender but the cup is too big...my breasts also don't feel full anymore. Is anyone noticing these types of changes or am I just weird lol

  • If you live near a Nordstrom, go there and get measured! They are absolutely wonderful and really helped me find the right size. I literally won't buy bras anywhere else! I also second Lilygrace48 on the sizing info and that boobs are strange! Haha!

  • I got one in each size as I went up, and then a couple after birth when things calmed down. Plus size I'm not much help, sorry!

  • I went from a 36C to 38C to 40D.  The cup fit was much better when the girls were full and firm early on, but I still can't back down to C.
I really like the maiden form bras.  They are super comfortable and with a full cup coverage it doesn't matter so much if the fullness fluctuates.  I'll definitely be going for maiden form nursing bras.

  • Does anyone know of a good place to look for plus sized bras? Currently a 34 DDD, but DH says they got bigger, and bras aren't fitting right anymore.

And WHEN do I get a new one? Don't they just keep growing? Lord help me...

Try Cacique? They start at 36, but go all the way up to like a g. Their stuff is really cute and durable. I have had some from there that have lasted years of heavy use.

@Rachel5130 I'm a 34GG right now and having a heck of time finding larger sized bras. I have been a 30F and 32G in the past (depending on my weight).  I have a specialty store nearby where I try stuff on but I usually buy from Bare Necessities or HerRoom.com and sometimes Amazon.  A lot of larger busted people recommend Curvy Kate too but it's a UK store so returns can be rough and you have to deal with the dollar to pound exchange rate.
I love Panache Superbras, they are great t-shirt bras and they go all the way up to a G cup.

OP - and others who wonder about bra sizes, check out this bra fitting guide from Reddit.  It's really good.  I was able to easily measure myself following these instructions so I could buy my humongous bras online.  https://www.reddit.com/r/ABraThatFits/wiki/fit_guide

Now if anyone can tell me where I could find a comfortable wireless bra I could sleep in to hold these puppies up I will kiss you!

  • Destination maternity has really good bras for plus size. the cup size goes up to E. I was a 34 DD now I am a (I guess, only one bra in the whole store fit) 38 E. At least I can breath now. The band is a little loose. It tighten up a little after washing it. I really needed to get a 36 F, but like I said they only went up to an E. With the rubs expanding, I sure this one will work out later. Going to go back in a couple weeks and get another one. Having only one bra sucks, but it's not like I don't already wash clothes everyday.

Yes this is happening to me too! I'm getting wider from. 34 to 36 or 38 but cup is still a B! :/ glad I'm not alone. I bought some "t shirt" wireless bras which seem to fit better. Makes sense my ribs would be expanding since I'm 5'1 and everything is being pushed up and out lol

Eta: @whoberry I got mine at target! :)
  • So... I was a 36B before pregnancy, and am still a 36B!  My boobs haven't changed at all!!!  DH is so disappointed lol.  They will change eventually, right?  Am I going to get a massive flood of milk after I deliver?  That sounds painful, ugh.

Sorry to change the subject, I didn't want to SS a new thread ;)

  • Great thread. I would love to start wearing a regular bra again! I've just been using sports bras since I've always struggled with bras. I'm normally a 32D and bought a 36D per the lady's rec at motherhood but just doesn't seem to fit right. Going to try getting measured again!
  • Lol!!! Will I ever go back to my normal boob size again????? I went from a 36B to 40D. They're HUGE!!!

  • I will echo pp here. Definitely get measured! I would never have thought I was now 36E (started as a 34D) if I didn't get some help. Destination maternity and pea in a pod are great. Better to get maternity/nursing bras then pay for a larger regular bra that you might not use later.

  • Everyone's bodies are different and your boobs will do what they have to to prepare for the upcoming milk supply for baby. Also, my sister's boobs never grew with her 2nd pregnancy and her milk came in just fine, she's been BF'ing a year this month, and she didn't get flooded at birth.
Because I have csections I take vitamins starting the day before my csection and immediately after to help trigger my milk to kick in even though my boobs grow rapidly during pregnancy, and I take it immediately after my csection because your body misses the process with a spinal tap, so I like to give myself a jump start to make sure I can BF cause I birth super hungry babies. Lol.

Your boobs will not flood you, (unless you lay on your belly then yes, the pressure will flood milk all over you lol but its not painful. Just try your best to not get engorged after birth by feeding regularly!)

    How's that @rachel5130
  • Great thread! Nordstrom is a great place to get sized and they carry bras past an E which are hard to find!! If my boobs get any bigger I am gonna cry lol I went from a large c cup to an H!!!!! My boobs are national geographic scary!!! Happy bra hunting!!!

I refuse to buy any 'cup size' bras as they are all friggin uncomfortable and I'm not sure how big I'm going to wind up once my milk comes in. My tata's aren't the biggest (solid B) so I don't feel like I need the support either. I try to find ones that come in S/M/L sizing so there is a bit of wiggle room.

Just ordered one of these to try: https://tiny.cc/a2ynax. It ticks a few boxes for me: lower cut, wireless, lightly padded. Plus the name is awesome!

  • I started as a 34B and am now a 36C and still growing. I bought a few new bras and expect I'll have to buy more in a few months.
  • I got fitted yesterday. I had been wearing a 38C, and the put me in a 38DDD! The lady at Dillard's said I have wide and shallow boobs, which is apparently common but not well accommodated by the bra manufacturers. To get the width I need so the wire doesn't cut into my side boob, I had to go up in cup size. I'm not completely filling out the cup, but it's not gaping or floppy either, and so far I'm much more comfortable. Maybe your boobs are a similar shape.

Does anyone know of bras like these but with more padding? I'm pretty small and need some padding for my shirts to fit. :). (I started a 34a and my bras very recently stopped being comfy . . .)

  • I agree with pp- go to nordstrom or a local bra shop and get sized. You can order your hard to find sizes on Amazon if you can't see spending Nordstrom/specialty shop prices. I don't recommend buying nursing bras at this point, but I've seen others feel differently. My bra size seems to change every month and a half or so at this point and my boobs were huge after my milk came in. My boobs are not small to begin with and good supportive 34h bras are not cheap. It would be a waste to guess what size they will be after birth when milk comes in.

Try Lane Bryant. I was a DD before I got pregnant and I outgrew those and got some DDD from Lane Bryant. They are so comfy and actually cute, unlike a lot of bigger bras.

@FeliciaTwo these ones from H&M look like they might have more padding: https://www.hm.com/us/product/08585?article=08585-D think I'm going to break my 'no cup size' rule and check them out for that price!

  • @Rachel5130 I vote for checking out Lane Bryant/Cacique, too. I wear a 38ddd and they always have cute stuff that is supportive and holds up well over time. They usually have pretty good sales throughout the year, too. I haven't bought any maternity bras yet, but my twin sister who is due a week after me and close in size bought some at Motherhood Maternity. She said they fit well and had a decent selection.
  • I've been wearing sports and nursing bras. I have mini-boobs so it's not difficult to find bras that fit.
  • @rachel5130 Lane Bryant is having an online BOGO free sale on their bras today.
  • I second the Nordstrom suggestion..i thought the selection at destination maternity was pitiful. They have all sizes and will order and ship for free.

I think I got sized every 2-3 months during my frist pregnancy. In desperate need for a one right now. Being professionally sized and wearing a decent bra saved my sanity.
