Birth announcements (mail, not on TB)

DH and I saw a comedian tonight and he brought up a funny point about sending birth announcements in the mail.  He said something like "Here's the announcement for the baby that you already know about, because you got the email, text, and Facebook."  He's right!  So are you ladies still planning to send hard copy announcements, or solely going with the text/email/FB/blog route?

ETA:  Now that stamps are a ridiculous 49 cents, do you try to narrow your list as well?

Re: Birth announcements (mail, not on TB)

  • Since neither my husband or I have Facebook, we will likely send most of our friends texts and certain family members announcements via US Postal.

  • I will send out announcements via the mail once we do newborn photos
  • We will text and fb but I might send out thank you cards/ birth announcements when we get our newborn pics done.
  • We are. Mainly to my husbands out of state relatives that we do not talk to a lot.
I have like $60 is shutterfly gift cards so i have no reason not too!

  • I am sending them out. But then again I just addressed valentine's day cards this weekend because I'm a nerd like that.
  • Yes I will. I love getting them. Plus I have friends and family not on FB.

  • Yes I will mail them because I don't have Facebook. Plus I definitely have grandmas and foreign family that don't have any social media.
  • I plan to send them once we get our newborn pictures back
  • We are. My best friend/roommate from college is a graphic designer and runs her own business and part of her present to us was 50 free birth announcements. We'll prob do them after the newborn photos are done and incorporate them.

This. Only a few people will get texts from me. I'm sure my mom will share it with the world though.

  • Haha yep. I'm old fashioned. Also, we don't text/call our extended family and not all of them have fb.

  • We won't send them.  I don't think any of my IRL parent friends have even sent them out either.  Maybe it's not as big a thing around here.

  • My husband is very adamant about not putting pics of our baby on Facebook so we plan to do hard copy announcements. We will probably only text/email pics to our immediate families and our aunts and uncles and far away friends and such can see the pic on the hard copy

  • Yes, we are sending birth announcements with newborn pictures.  My husband and I are not fans of flooding facebook with baby/kids pictures.
  • We do post pics and everything on Facebook, but I think there's definitely something special about sending birth announcements.  I love getting them (as long as they have pictures, honestly don't get the point of the baby stats ones) and keep them up on my refrigerator for a year at least.

I loved making birth announcements for my first two and can't wait to do it this time around!  I like to get the envelopes ahead of time and address/stamp them, so all I have to do is take some pics, design the announcement and stuff the envelopes.

  • Thank you for asking this! I was debating posting basically the exact same thing last night, but I was tired so I went to bed instead. I think we're going to end up sending out a few to our older/non-technologically-advanced relatives and then I'm sure our parents would like one for their first grandchild, and we can stick one in his baby album. Plus, like PP I've got at least $20 to Shutterfly, so we might as well.

  • I like the idea of family and friends having a nice picture of the baby. I do photo thank you's for B's birthday every year too.
Most of my family doesn't have Facebook so I like to make sure they all get current pictures.

  • Yes, to family and close friends.
  • Hmmm. Im on the fence. I feel obligated but I think its kinda a waste. My bff is our photographer so her website and facebook will post some newborn/tasteful birth pics right away and most my family is on there (my grandpa loves FB.lol). I may narrow the list to just family that gets a mail version. Honestly, I get birth announcements, holiday cards etc and most the time I have seen Every. Single. One on facebook so I just toss them.

  • We'll do texts and Facebook but then send thank yous with professional photos by post. In Ireland you don't get gifts till baby arrives and so it's pretty normal to not get thank yous out till 3-6 months and no one thinks anything of it.
  • We will send announcements out because people will want actual photos of the baby so this is the perfect way for us to get multiple out to them. Not everyone we want to share our little man with has FB or IG.
  • We will be sending/handing out actual ones to a few. I made DS but I have free shutter fly ones this time so why not.

  • Yes, doing them --- we're not connected with most of our relatives on Facebook, plus we both like sending Real Mail.

  • I love real birth announcements (and any other type of real mail card), so we will be sending lots of them.  I've already picked out the ones that I plan to order.  :)

  • I heart real mail and love getting announcements so we will mail.
  • We'll send a few to close friends and family. I love getting them, so that's what I'm going on.

This for us, too. I feel like as a FTM, for me anyway, it's kind of a rite of passage. Ya know, next to the whole giving birth thing.
