Major Mommy Fail

LO just took a tumble down the stairs. I've never felt worse about anything in my entire life. She is so fast and I thought hubby had an eye on her and he thought I did. I would never forgive myself if something happened to her because I wasn't careful. Major goose egg on her forehead but seems ok otherwise. My nurse friend told me what to look out for so I think she is ok. But I had to confess my sins to you guys. Ugh crapy way to start the day.

    I'm so sorry.  Worst feeling ever.  LO Fell out of his baby carrier once when he was about 6 months old, and I basically wanted to die.  It was 100% my fault (I didn't have him buckled in and picked it up really fast to walk across the room), and I cried for like 2 days.

    @JSS that is how I feel. The bruises to me will certainly outlast the one on her head. :(

    Indeed they will, but in about a week you'll feel a lot better. :-)  And I guarantee it will never happen again! It's okay -- accidents happen.  Glad you talked to a nurse.  I happened to be with my friend who is a neonatologist when it happened, so I got her advice too and that made me feel a lot better.

    Alright, I've got a doozy for you.  MH was feeding Fin at the table, in his bumbo (its only ever on the table when we are sitting right there with him), I was in the living room doing the crossword.  DH gets up to get a wipe for Fin's face and in the blink i see the baby reaching out for something on the table and he slides out of the seat, DH hadnt buckled him, ahhhh.  I scream and run to him, DH turns from the sink and runs to him, I watch in slow motion as his legs drag him over the side of the table toward the floor.  DH and I collide as we both dive to catch him, DH got him by the side of his PJs and I craddled my hand under his head right as he landed.  We got him just in time, but we both sat on the floor shaking for quite some time, it  could have been terrible.  DH and I both have bruised legs where we collided with eachother an the floor, but baby is perfect.  Dont even say it, I know, Bumbo is on the floor in the living room, lesson learned.

    So glad you guys got to him in time!!! Part of me is glad I didn't see her in the act of falling...think that would make me feel even worse. Would never be able to he that image out of my head. Definite lesson learned here too.

    When my brother was a baby he fell down the stairs in his walker and even though I was only 4, I saw it happen and I cried for like an hour. My mom was beside herself. I still remember it that's how traumatized we all were. I am glad your LO is ok!

    When I was a baby my mother set me on top the table in a bouncy seat while she folded laundry. She turned to talk my sister for a minute and I bounced the seat off the table.  While I turned out fine, she reminded me of that story every time she sees me do something unsafe, even for a second.
