Car accident

Well, someone hit my sister and me from behind yesterday. We were at a dead stop and the girl said her brakes were bad. She slammed right into us. I went to the hospital to check on the baby. My baby boy is fine but my back is killing me, which I rather be in pain than have anything wrong with baby boy. So annoyed at this girl. Why are you driving your car if you have bad brakes???
Anyone have any suggestions on how to aliviate back pain? Thanks for letting me rant.

Re: Car accident

  • Oh no I'm sorry to hear you guys were in an accident. But glad to here everything is ok. I would try a heating pad and Tylenol. Also rest and elevate your legs to help with blood flow.

  • I second the heating pad, and maybe if you have a shower head that will do, put it on massage and aim it right where it hurts.  Feel better!

  • I highly doubt that her insurance will pre-authorize any treatment. You may also want to see what available medical coverage your sister has. I don't know which state you are in so I can't advise you any further on those.
I suggest seeking additional medical care if you feel that you need it, and ensure to be prompt about it. If not, I agree with Tylenol and a heating pad.
  • Feel better!

  • that really sucks! I hope there wasn't too much damage. Most of all am glad that everyone is safe, LO included. I hope your back heals quickly.
  • Glad everyone is okay! Ditto the heating pad, warm bath, and Tylenol. Sleep with a pillow between your knees at night. Feel better soon!

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • Sorry to hear. If it's bad enough I say get in the a PT or chiropractor with a massage with your own insurance and submit the claim to the car insurance. Otherwise try gentle stretching, walking on level surfaces, Tylenol, and actually alternate heat and ice for 20 minutes off/on. The combo is sometimes better for pain. (I am a PT). Hope you fell better soon and glad your LO is okay.
  • Glad baby is ok. So sorry about the pain. I second the heating pad, warm bath, and physical therapy.

  • So glad everything is OK with you and LO. Some Tylenol and a heating pad will hopefully help. Also, SO could also give you a massage.

  • Thanks ladies! I'm doing the Tylenol and a heating pad. It eases the pain. I'm going to see my OB tomorrow. The pain wakes me in the night :( Plus it's a follow up appointment for the LO
  • I think you've already gotten some good advice on pain m management from the PPs so I just want to say I'm glad you and your LO (and sister!) are all okay. :)

  • Glad you are ok! Have you tried yoga? I'm taking a prenatal yoga class and the teacher gives us exercises to relieve back pain. An easy one to try is just laying on your back with your legs propped against the wall. Bend your knees at a right angle with your feet flat on the wall and it will take the pressure off your back. I haven't been in an accident, but this has really helped with my preg back pain!
  • So sorry you have to deal with this but glad you and LO are okay. I don't have any added advice different from pp, but wanted to send my well wishes! Hope you feel better soon!
  • Glad LO is ok!
I'd highly recommend seeing a chiropractor or pain specialist.  Chiro is safe for pregnancy and may help significantly with the pain.  There are even chiropractor that specialize in maternity care.
One thing, your health insurance may not cover care for any injuries sustained in the accident.  You'll need to talk with the car insurance for the covered car in the accident.  And maybe a lawyer.
