Kaylee is here....in NICU (Long, sorry)

Friday I came in for my pre-registration apt. Meeting w anesthesia went well. Got our ultra sound done and noticed she was measuring small by two weeks. The u/s was sent to my OB while I went to L&D for my final NST.

My bp was staying around 165/110 even w my resting in a dark and quiet room. Despite my other labs being fine, my OB made the call for a RCS that day. Mom called DH who showed up just as they finished placing my second IV.
He scrubbed up and we headed to th OR.

Outside the door the
anesthesiologist and I had a discussion about spinal vs general since I have Harrington rods. We decided to try a spinal but be ready for general if it didn't take.

They placed the spinal at 3:40. First cut was made at 3:50 and Kaylee Rose was born at 3:57. 5lbs 9 oz. 17.5 in long. She cried instantly. They cleaned her up and let DH hold her next to my face for several minutes before taking her to the nursery.

After being wheeled to recovery, I was informed she had gunky lungs. She spent 24 hours being treated for what they thought was just amniotic fluid in the lungs that didn't get squeezed out since I had an RCS.

Yesterday around 3 I woke up from a nap to find the pediatrician on call and the head of the nursery in my room. They told me the good news is she doesn't have pneumonia. But one lung had collapsed and the fluid was building up in her lung cavity. They were about to call the two local NICUs to see who had room for her.

Baptist replied that they would be here in 40 minutes. At this point I'd only held her once. I was in a lot of pain from unreleased gas, but I pushed through and was wheeled down to the nursery to hold her til the NICU team arrived.

I have to say, so far they've been amazing. They explained what every tube and wire is for and gave me the direct number for her nurse at hospital. They called my phone when they made it to the NICU and her dr called me personally when they finished the first procedure about an hour after they got there.

DH went home to shower and rest. I'm hoping to be released today, despite my bp staying high and needing a prescription to keep it in acceptable ranges and another prescription to lower my heart rate.

Right now our theory is that since we were basing our dates on my mid-pregnancy u/s, we were off by a few weeks.... Or my pre-e was hard on her and led to undiagnosed IUGR.

She got to leave w the two stuffed animals that her sisters and I had bought her, and so far I'm the only one who can hold her wo her crying. I'm looking forward to getting to hold her again today after a lunchtime release for me (assuming I don't need a transfusion since my iron has tanked in the past few days).
