Eating and drinking

Since we've left the hospital, I've had a really hard time eating and drinking. At the hospital, I ate quite well and drank loads of water. Now, I barely can finish my dinner and everytime I drink water, I feel very off and almost lightheaded.. Any suggestions?

Re: Eating and drinking

  • For me it was that my metabolism was way down compared to being pregnant. I did little snacks throughout the day for the first week vs large meals.

  • @slmille4 I hope that works. I know food and liquids is crucial for me now, but it's so hard to get anything down without feeling like I'm gonna pass out..such a scary feeling.

  • I try to drink a big cup of water with each feeding (i ebf) and at least snack throughout the day. I also have a goal of some sort of protein by 1pm or I feel funny. Thankfully, I have DD who isn't shy about reminding me about meal time!
  • @babywinks thank you! All these feelings are so new to me, and it's making me freak out! Heh. I'm glad to know it isn't just me. :)

  • Happened to me with both babies. I think it is hormones mixed with anxiety. I stuck to easy to eat things like bananas, toast, etc. you could also try a calorie heavy drink like ensure. I also kept a snack by the bed for the first few weeks so I could eat during late night feedings. Hope you feel better soon.

  • I also lost my appetite PP. I knew I had to eat because I am BF but could barely drive myself too. Now 4 weeks later and it's a little better but I can easily forget to eat if I'm not careful. I'm blaming the PP hormones...
  • I had almost no appetite for a couple weeks postpartum.  Just stay hydrated, and try to at least snack through the day.
  • I am in the same boat. I have to force myself to eat and drink. I have never in my life had a problem drinking water until now. I have been drinking at least one Boost a day to make sure I am getting nutrients.

It gets a little bit better each day for me, but I still feel like I could go a whole day without eating without batting an eyelash. Kind of scary.
  • 100% me as well. No food seems appealing and I have to force myself to eat half my plate. I'll try the boost/ensure thing - good idea!
