Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Has your LO gotten the Flu vaccine yet?

Our last Dr. appt with DS was  back in November when he was almost 7 months. He received a few vaccines at that visit but definately not the flu vaccine. Our Pedi didn't mention it and it honestly just never occured to DH and I until recently. Isn't it fairly standard for this to happen at the 6 month appt? Regardless we have a 9 month check in two weeks and will ask about it or request it then, but I was curious what other parents are doing and when you scheduled it? DS has been sick this week anyway so I wouldn't want to schedule it any sooner at this point.

  • Yes dd got it in nov at her 6 month checkup. I always do ds's in november & it worked out perfectly with dds 6 month checkup!

  • We just got ours last week at his 6 mo check up. It was actually the nurse who gives the shots that asked us about it. She said the doc leaves the decision up to the parents especially this late into flu season.
  • We got it at LO's six month well check and a week ago we went back for the booster.
  • We went back a week after her 6 month check up for the flu shot separately as pedi requested it. We also returned for the booster 6 months later.

My kids 6 month appointment was a bit late so he just got it on Friday along with everything else.  There's a 30 day booster he'll go for.

The older two go theirs about a month ago.

  • I just got one for my son (and myself for the first time ever) last week.  I had a difficult time finding someone that would do it (his pedi was out).  If your pedi offers it that's definitely easier.  He is almost 7 months.
  • Yes, at the six month visit and then a booster 1 month later.

  • My pedi was pleasantly surprised when I asked for the flu vax....that made me feel like it's not standard but extra instead

  • She got it at her 6 month appt and got the booster 30 days later.  I just think with adults dying from the flu, why would I chance it with my daughter.   She didn't even flinch when she got the booster.

Our pedi highly recommended it at the 6 month check up.  I agreed and he did receive the vaccine. (booster to follow up next month)

    My baby is ONE!!

  • Everyone is at risk of getting the flu (even when getting the vaccine)!  Those who are most likely to die from it have other health issues.  A healthy body- no matter what age needs to be able to fight off a virus. The flu vaccine cannot be given until 6 months.... What would you do if your baby was born in December?  He/she would have to go through a flu season without the vaccine!

To each their own! Its a choice that is made by the parent.
    :)

We dont vacinate agianst the flu either . We just had a case in my state where a kid died from the swine flu and he had been vaccinated . People forget that even when you get vacinated your not out of the woods. We as a family choose to boost our immune systems naturally . I was pregnant a few years ago and was exposed to the swine flu and never got it while my vacinated friend did .
  • Yep, he got it at six month appointment, which was a few weeks late anyway, and then the booster a month later.
  • We got LOs shot at her six month appt a week ago. By the time she's ready for the second shot, it will be mid march and they may not have any left so I am supposed to call ahead. The doc assured me that even if she only ends up with one dose it is better than nothing.

DS got one at his 6 month appointment. His pedi said they would probably be out of the booster in a month, but even just one shot was better than nothing. I could never live with myself if LO died of something I possibly could have prevented with a vaccine

  • Mine just got hers today at 6 month. Same as Sipafforf....Dr. said they will most likely be out next month for the booster, but one is better than nothing.

Whether it's "necessary" or not, if I can save my daughter any unnecessary pain/sickness, I will!

  • Every parent has his/her own right to do what they feel is best for his/her child. But the analogy you make here is very poor. The act of putting on a seatbelt does not have any possible harmful effects unlike the flu shot which has many. I prefer to build up my child's immunity naturally and not risk the possible short and long term effects of giving a vaccine that is 1) not proven to be effective and 2) not proven to be safe.
  • He got it last week at his 6 month well check.

  • Unless the CDC has correctly predicted the flu strains that will dominate the "flu season", the flu shot will be less than 50% effective.  Flu shots in the past have been 30% effective.  Like others have said, it's basically a 50 / 50 shot either way.  I, personally, will NOT take the flu shot.  Everyone here that has contracted the flu virus has gotten the vaccine.  That just proves the vaccine is not protecting against this particular strain.
Also, studies have shown that the initial swine flu vaccines have increased the chance of autism in children.  Not good.  It was just pushed out too fast without enough research.
I'm going to discuss the shot with the pedi before LO does or does not take it.  He's already been exposed (thanks to a kid at daycare...yea!). LO's appointment is next week.
  • yes my LO got it right before i left the country 1 week ago. she had a sight reaction to the shot but other words shes fine :)

This is bullshit. No legitimate study has linked autism to any vaccine.

It's absolutely is not.  I was shocked when I heard the report myself.  Do a little research.  You'll find it.  I'm a firm believer in vaccines.  But the flu.... I'm not convinced it's been tested enough for me to have faith in it at this time.

Post the link to this report. I guarantee you it's not legitimate.
Understand, it was specific to the initial swine flu vaccines.  This vaccine was give alone, and not in combination with others.  The flu shot now is a compound version.  It includes several strains of the flu.  I will find the research and post.

  • My pedi felt DD would be better served waiting until the fall to get her first round of the flu shot; she said with needing to get the booster the first time she'd be better protected for next season.

I BF and SAH, so she felt she was pretty well protected and that she's noticed a sharp decrease in instances of flu in our area.
