To set up the nursery?

Since this is our second, we have all the furniture and nursery necessities. I have gender neutral bedding and lots of basic onesies. How soon is too soon to out out the glider, swing, wash clothes and put them in the dresser?
When did you/will you set up your nursery?
Every time I want to start I chicken out. I'm only 27 weeks...

I would say you could start!

  • Thanks ladies! I'm going to go for it. @jenn06l80 I work full time too and most days don't have very much energy with a preschooler on top of work...I figure I may as well do it while I feel up to it!

  • I finished my nursery tonight and I'm 23 weeks lol I just have to wait for the rug I ordered and my baby shower so I'll wait to wash everything at once but it's basically done.
  • I am 30 weeks and almost done as well. I am exhausted and have relied heavily on my DH and sister to do most of the work with me just giving input on where I want things.  cannot imagine trying to get anything done towards the end of this pregnancy. Ours involved a remodel with painting and new flooring which DH finished around Christmastime and we have been setting up the past 3 weeks after each of my baby showers. I felt pretty confident after I was feeling the babies move regularly, A/S looked good and we passed viability week 24. I love having it done now because I can go sit in the rocker and read my baby books and write my shower thank-you cards and just enjoy the last few moments looking forward to being a mommy finally.

  • My goal is to have everything done by 28 weeks juuust in case. We have the cribs, changing table, armoire and we're getting the glider tomorrow. We still have a lot to do (paint, decorate, buy/organize their baby stuff) but it's honestly tiring doing this stuff like by little each weekend so I'm glad to have started early!

So, I vote for doing it now if you feel good and up for it :)

  • Dooo Iiiiitttt!!! :) I started ordering cribs and mattresses and such after we knew genders - probably about 18 weeks. I don't care if people thought it was too early. I'm glad I did, too, because at just 25 weeks with these babies, I can barely bring myself to hang a picture.

  • Eh, too soon is really all in your head. The only reason to delay (assuming its something you already want to do) is fear of loss and everyone has a different threshold for when that stops outweighing the urge to nest :)

I've had a crib for years but we didn't start painting the nursery until I was over 20 weeks. Still needs a touch up coat of paint and then decals (already picked but not ordered) then furniture moving etc etc etc. I'm glad we started sorta early though- DH doesn't really feel compelled to fix up the nursery (home deco stuff has always been my area) and so progress is glacially slow since I'm on bed rest and depending on help from my friends/family whenever they have a few extra hours to give.

So I'd vote its certainly not too early to start- I have!

  • Whatever you feel, I think.  I am 31 weeks and we just got the nursery painted yesterday.  I am not worried since the baby is going to be rooming with us at first anyway.  I asked my mom about this and she was all "Oh, honey, we were working on your nursery the night before you were born!"  :)
  • We're having another boy, and we have pretty much everything leftover from DS. I'll be 24 weeks on Tuesday and we painted the nursery today. I'd like to get the carpet cleaned sometime this week and then start putting the rest of it together. I'll probably wait to start washing clothes until 30ish weeks +.
  • I'm in the minority, but we just started ours and I'm only 13w! I figured we waited so long through IF, it's not too soon. Plus, we wanted to spread out the purchases instead of lumping them all together in at the end. I 've decided I don't want to live through this pregnancy worried about what might happen (and I don't judge anyone who wants to wait) but we are going forward with this as "when" and not "if." It's felt really good. It's something you just have to decide for yourself. If you want to start soon, go for it. I also like that I can find really special pieces to the nursery as we go along rather than feeling rushed to just get it done. That's my 2 cents! GL

  • We are just getting started. We started clearing out the room over the weekend and hopefully DH will start to paint this weekend or the next. Our furniture is ordered and came in early- we aren't picking it up for a few weeks though (for a few different reasons- mainly coordinating the time).
My work surprised me with a shower on Friday and spoiled me with a ton of clothes and other goodies- I am itching to wash and put away but I just don't have the space yet!
    I say go for it!!!

  • Thanks!! So I ended up clearing the room out so it's just baby stuff in there now. We moved into the house last year and since it was a new build, we had the walls painted at the same time. I chose a pretty blue that I thought would work for a nursery, and we ended up storing a bunch of stuff in there that we didn't have a home for yet. So I cleared all of that out, the crib is set up, the furniture is in the right place, and I had DH bring up boxes from the garage of our gender neutral clothes from the first weeks and all of our swaddle blankets. The next two weekends are pretty full, so that's about all we have done now, but it feels like a good start. I feel so much better seeing it somewhat set up. It feels REAL! I can't wait to have it all done! Thanks ladies!
