Police Academy graduation gift help

DH is graduating next Friday after 22 long weeks of the police academy. He already has a St. Michael's necklace because he has been a corrections officer for a few years. I am thinking of doing a Swiss Army knife with an engraved message but I'm not sure what to put on it... Those of you involved in law-enforcement any neat messages you can think of that relate to the job or any other gift ideas...thank you!!

What about a bag he could use to take back and forth to the station with his gear/change of clothes/whatever he needs? I know that's a common gift for guys graduating from the fire academy...

  • He's really going to need a good maglite. I like @UpsideDownFrown's idea. You could so his badge number and the date he graduates. You could also get a wooden billy club. My husband was so excited when he got his. He really loves his LED flashlight too.

I got DH the st michael's coin with a quote from a policemen's prayer and his graduation date on the back... Maybe do something like that on the wallet you're talking about?

And yeah, anything gear related DH gets through his clothing allowance, so I'm kind of sol with that.

I gave him "permission" (I would have bought it myself if I could have) to get an off duty gun. Basically gave him the money for it and let him get it himself so he could use his discount.

Edited to add: yay for him finally graduating! Congrats on making it through! Do you find it crazy to finally be able to talk about graduation?

How about a nice watch? I am thinking cops are constantly doing paperwork that needs the time and they are looking for time. So that would be functional.
If he has an iPhones Magpole (a gun company) makes these awesome indestructible phone covers. That'd be bad ass plus it totally appropriate for his work.
I also know cops are ABOUT their sunglasses. You could get a really nice, quality pair, polarized with a possible Rx if he needs glasses. Boom.
I think a tactical knife rather than a Swiss might be nice. Sharp, quick flip blade would be very useful.
If he owns guns (like my DH) there is always upgraded safety shooting glasses, shooting headphones, an awesome gun case, a gun safe, a new holster?
For fun I was thinking maybe an "armed services coat of arms" like something historical?
I have been meaning to buy my DH a really nice straight razor and this very nice shaving cream (organic, sensitive, etc) like the old fashion kind that has a brush and lather bowl. That would be nice if your DH is a clean shaven every day sort of guy.

My DH thinks you should get your DH a "congratulations" hand gun. Its a little speedy but it is totally worth it. My DH also went thru the academy and he 2nd's the thought that watches are sooooooo important. He said ine that has hands that glow in the dark or a night time option.
I was also thinking a go Pro camera system would be great!
also look on Survival Straps.com. they are paracord bracelets and there are ones that have dog tags for the services (fire, emt, etc.) You can get a lanyard, a bracelet, a dog collar (if he will have a K-9) or a key chain.

  • I agree with @kimberlymacrae. I completely forgot I got DH a nice duty watch the christmas before he graduated. I got him the cloth strapped one so it wouldn't sweat on his arm. Also with the glow in the dark hands.

  • Gshocks are awesome. My husband wants one. Invicta also makes great watches. I am thinking something black on black, understated so it isnt too flashy. Just my $.02
