  • Aww :( I'm sorry. I feel for you. I've had them on and off but mostly off. When I have had them a few things that helped are taking tylenol with a little bit of caffeine, ie a cup of coffee or tea. It really helps the tylenol do its job and usually at least takes the edge off. Other times at the VERY beginning of the headache massaging peppermint essential oil into my forehead helps. Also, my midwife told me to start taking 400mg magnesium daily to help with this. I hope you feel better soon.

  • My Dr perscribed me Tylenol with codine this last week and it made a world of difference. I only took it twice and have been headache free since then. I also got one of those rice pillows that you heat up in the microwave, some of the crafty moms actually said they made theirs using a sock which I thought was so cool. Also lavender oil massaged onto your temples might help too. Lots of water too, I drank a ton but it didn't really ever seem to help. Headaches have been my worst pregnancy symptom by far and I feel for anyone in the same boat. I hope you get some relief soon. Good luck. Big hugs!

@ladylutzow15 Were you prescribed Tylenol 3?

Mine are awful. I have had one every morning for a month and it feels like my head is going to explode!

  • I get migraines every time it snows. Last night was the 11th storm of the season. Yay for me...

I do several things, I take Tylenol, drink a small cup of coffee, then lie down with a large ice pack that goes from my head down to my shoulder. Usually I can fall asleep at that point and feel a little better in the morning. I go and get adjusted after that also. My mom is my chiropractor, she's a life saver! <3

  • I'm actually not sure if it's called Tylenol 3, I'll go look at the bottle now... Yup it is. I would contact your dr, she told me to use this medication sparingly and of course I will but it seems to have kicked the headache out of me for now. I feel your pain, I really do and I'm so sorry.
  • Drink a cup of regular coffee. My ob said they're common and if you're experiencing one to just have your cup of joe.

I'm also allowed to take my imitrex. I'd talk to your OB first though.

  • I'm sucking down Tylenol, magnesium and caffeine every morning to get to a point where I can function. This morning has been bad. I woke up to pee around 4:30 and thought, "wow! No headache yet!" Then got back in bed and it hit. With vengeance. I've been up since then for the most part.
  • Tylenol isn't even helping mine now. I got one yesterday and have taken Tylenol a few times and it just dulls it a bit. Thinking I'm gonna have to call the doctor tomorrow cause this is miserable.

  • I'm having serious migraine problems too! My ob referred me to a neurologist headache specialist and the neurologist told me to start taking one OTC magnesium supplement (300 mg) every night regardless if I have a headache or not. She also said that on days I have a migraine to take one magnesium supplement in the morning and one at night (total of 600g max per day). The dr said it would take two to three weeks of consistent use before i start experiencing the full benefits of the magnesium supplement but I've been doing that for only about 5 days now and got a migraine two days ago and it was less severe and shorter than they normally are. It seems to be working already!

If that doesn't work, my dr told me that I could get magnesium infusions once a month- I would have to go to outpatient three days in a row for three hours at a time to get IV magnesium fluids.

The neurologist and ob both said to start taking the Tylenol regularly the second I feel a migraine coming on. They also said to try and identify any triggers and to drink plenty if water (which I'm sure you've already tried).

My ob wanted me to try this before prescribing me Tylenol with codeine bc the baby can become dependent on the codeine. The magnesium supplements are a more natural way to treat the migraine without any side effects on the baby. Hopefully the magnesium helps for you! I'm so sorry you have to experience those nasty migraines!
  • I've experienced migraines before and after getting pregnant now. I also do not like to take any sort of medication. However, now that I'm pregnant I will try to take Tylenol as soon as I feel one coming on and then lay down with an ice pack wherever I feel the pain the most (temples or back of neck usually for me). Ice tends to work better than heat for me. It actually doesn't feel cold to me when it stays on the source of the pain. I also try to drink water, slowly, since I am also typically nauseous and have gotten sick several times because of the pain. Unfortunately, sometimes it can just take time. Pre-pregnancy I tried several migraine medications and they only worked maybe half of the time and still made me take the time to lay down.
  • Thank you all for the suggestions and advice. I am going to call my Ob tomorrow to discuss all of your suggestions. Today's migraine has been totally debilitating, I have taken Tylenol, neti pot, regular coffee, dark room the works and no relief in sight today. Hoping for an early bedtime tonight. Hope everyone else suffering gets some relief also.

Seriously! You are my new best friend!! I could kiss you for posting this!! I have used magnesium for migraines for years - like 15 or so. BUT I have never taken it preventativly. I feel a headache coming on (most any headache because I'm not sure which ones will turn full blown migraine - I have zero pattern or triggers, as they started after a head injury in high school) and I take magnesium, Advil and caffeine (before getting KU of course, swap Advil for useless Tylenol now). But I took my normal magnesium dose (already ok'd by my ob) last night and today is the first time in WEEKS I did not wake up with a raging headache! (I wouldn't call what these have been migraines, as I have had no vision involvement or vomiting, but it was close yesterday).

I hope it works for tomorrow too :-)

  • in addition to what's been recommended, I've taken one low dose asprin (OB permission to do so), and antihistamines. Mine are sometimes related to foods. other times not. Other advice given here was really good and I've done all that stuff too, minus codine and imitrex while preg. Catching them sooner then later really helps.

  • Ugh I was having random headaches here and there and Tylenol would fix them but after reading this post I've had a constant headache for 48 hours now! Tylenol is not working :( ill try the compress tonight. Does anyone know why we are all getting these? Hormones?
  • I'm glad it gave you some hope!!! I take one every night and on the days I have a migraine, I take one in the morning and at night. The more consistently I take the magnesium I am noticing that my migraines are getting less severe and shorter in duration. Good luck with them!!!
  • It's the change in hormones... I'm hoping my migraines decrease once baby arrives!

Don't freak out, it will turn your urine bright yellow. But it's a vitamin that you can't have too much of.

    That explains some things! Lol.

I was prescribed fioricet by my OB for headaches. After reading on here about the magnesium, I mentioned it at my next visit. They put me on the magnesium preventative as well. It's 500mg magnesium per day (taken in two doses), 400-500mg of B2 per day, and Reglan. The Reglan was a Rx that they had to write. I have to take it 4x a day, which kind of sucks, but it's helping! Also, I noticed that the Reglan is typically used for heartburn so I'm not complaining! ;)
