Deciding on c-section date: Which would you choose?

My MFM and OB decided that due to Baby B being around the 5th percentile for growth that they need to be delivered by 37 weeks. For me, that's two weeks from today. It looks like I will have the choice between Valentine's Day and my birthday (the 17th) for a c-section (unless they come earlier of course). I'm just curious what others would choose. It feels strange to possibly be picking their birthday!

I think I'd do the 17th. My own birthday has been on Easter twice and that's never been fun, I prefer it to be on a day that's not already a holiday especially one that would be the same every year

I would pick a different day that wasn't my birthday. Some people hate sharing, some love it. Id just avoid it.

I would pick the 17th as more doctors/nurses and lactation consultants are available during the week vs. a weekend. I had my DS on a Saturday and a lactation specialist couldnt help me till monday afternoon. I would go for weekday vs before a weekend.

I'd pickmy own birthday. Think long term. Yes They would have to share that date with you, but they have to share Valentines Day with the rest of the world. Example, when they are in school/college, nobody will know it's your birthday and they can celebrate with friends without conflicting celebrations. But if their birthday was valentines day, everybody in school/college and future bfs/gfs will be focused on valentines day and they wouldn't have two separate celebrations.

I think a Valentine's day birthday would be great! Always something special going on, no matter what, and it's not a "big" holiday like Christmas where the birthday would be overshadowed. Easy for the rest of the family to remember too!

I would pick the 17th because I think you will get better care (access to specialists, etc) delivering on a Monday vs Friday. Longer term, I always hated all the hoopla and expectations of Valentine's Day (blame it on being single through my 30's) and I would just rather have a day to celebrate with my twin and my mom and not the rest of the world.

(That said, by brother and SIL had a very similar choice and picked 2/15 for their second. She decided she wanted to be a VDay baby and SIL went into labor and had her on 2/14 anyway.)

Thanks for the responses ladies! You brought up a couple of points we hadn't thought of regarding access to specialists over the weekend. We will be delivering at a smaller hospital and I know they do run on a smaller staff over the weekend.

@nickied143, the 15th and 16th aren't options because they fall on the weekend and they don't have the staff to schedule c-sections. I think we are probably leaning toward the 17th, but who knows what the babies may decide between now and then!

If you pick the 14th would your SO get 2 extra days with the weekend? I'm assuming you'd be scheduled for the morning so you'd be in all day Friday and trust me plenty of doctors are on staff over the weekend. I'd go with the 14th myself.

I personally wouldn't want to share my birthday. I'd want my babies having their Owen special day. I think it'd be fun to have Valentine's Day babies!

I would pick valentine's day. It's not really a holiday per say, more just a commercialized Hallmark holiday. I would keep your birthday as a special day for you.

We'll be picking our lo's birthday too, well sort of, an induction so she could come the next day. We'll likely just choose based on which doctor is on rotation in hopes of our fav delivering her. I would go with Valentine's. It's not a huge holiday and I'm selfish on my birthday, I wouldn't want to share with anyone, haha. I know they'll be close and probably still celebrated together but at least they'll have their own birthday

I would go with Valentines Day. I wouldn't mind sharing my birthday with my LO, I just think it'd be fun to have Valentines day as my birthday!

Hmm too bad you can't do any other day. I vote valentines day. I don't think I would like sharing my bday with my mom. I would feel bad if I missed a celebration for her and vise versa bc I was doing a different celebration.

I don't really think my birthday is a big deal anymore, so I would definitely pick the 17th over Valentine's Day.

FWIW, I had DD on a Thursday, and we were in the hospital until Monday. We had no issues seeing specialists over the weekend, but maybe that's because we were at such a big hospital?
