What a night...

I was out at dinner with a girlfriend last night when DH calls me, frantic, saying Noah is having trouble breathing. I tell him to call 911, and then my phone dies. I was 20 min from my house, and we only have one car (which I had, with both car seats). I go flying home, and the ambulance is about to pull off my street. I throw the van in park, and an EMT hops out and says, "you must be Mom." He's fine. He had a barky cough and rattly breathing and was having trouble catching his breath, but had calmed down by the time I got home. He is fine this morning. So weird, right? He didn't eat anything new ysterday that I know of?? I have to call our DCP and ask her.

I'm glad LO is okay. That is a scary situation. Just a question, does he still have the barky cough or was it a one time thing? I only ask because C had the barky cough and trouble catching his breath and I thought it was croupe, but it was bronchialitis. The cough and trouble catching his breath were his only symptoms and he was very hoarse sounding when ge cried. So could he be catching a cold? I hope you hear back from your DCP soon.

Oh goodness! How scary! I'm so very glad he is okay. You and Dad must have been a wreck. Please, go buy a car charger for your phone. You must have been frantic that 20 minute drive home. Hugs to you all, and hopefully nothing like that happens again.

Wow - that must have been terrifying for you

That sounds like croup to me. The cough and trouble breathing typically is worse at night too. It can be bad for a few days and very scary. Just wanted to warn you that it may happen again tonight. If it does you can try taking him outside if it's cold where you are as the cold air helps. If he's not better with that and is having trouble breathing, I would take him to see a doctor.

C had an occasional cough during the day but it was really bad at night. That is why I thought it was croup at first. I'm glad he is feeling better. Hopefully it was nothing more then a one time thing.

he woke up a little early this morning, and is now passed out with his head on my shoulder. I called my BFF, who is a family physician, and she said ^ all the stuff you guys said. You ladies are awesome.

Glad you called your friend and that he is a lot better. My initial thought was croup too. At 16 mos we had to call ambulance for same symptoms and thats what it was. Hope he feels better and his cough goes away.
