May 2013 Moms

Pet Rock status

Hi ladies! I'm normally on the June '13 board but thought I would hop over here with a question. My LO was born May 24th, so she is technically a May baby but I had a June due date. So, she just turned 8 months. She was induced due to IUGR at 38wks 4 days.

Anyway, since most of your babies are as old or older than mine I wanted to ask if any of you still had pet rock status?

My dd is not rolling independently (will roll to side but not back to belly and rarely belly to back). She sits great and rarely topples over in a sitting position but is not mobile. She does not scoot, does not crawl or even get up on all 4's. I have taken her to my pedi and we have had a consultation with Early Intervention services to see if she will need additional assistance with her gross motor, but have a few weeks until she gets her evaluation. She is great with fine motor skills, babbles, is social and sweet... Just not a mover!

Is there anyone else out there with a non mobile baby? Or any BTDT moms?

Re: Pet Rock status

  • J rolled from tummy to back pretty early but just started actively rolling back to tummy maybe 3 weeks ago. He doesn't crawl, or scoot or get up on all 4's. He has been sitting up for awhile now and is very sturdy as far as that goes. My pedi said she doesn't really look for crawling until after 9 months.

In full disclosure, Jack wore a helmet full time until about 3 weeks ago which I think delayed pretty much everything. But even so, I think babies moving around will come soon enough and although I am excited for it to happen, I know a year from now I will be chasing him all over the house.

  • Thanks @oohgurl. I know several babies that are my daughters age (within a few weeks of each other) and they are crawling, as well as most of the June board. So it seems like the norm is for babies to be crawling at 6-7 months + but what I've read says more like 8-10 months. I'm trying not to worry. :) but the non rolling has me a bit worried since they look for that by 6 months old.

  • I know for sure there are a ton on this board that are in the same boat of no crawling. I wouldn't worry!

  • I would be concerned if LO wasn't sitting. If she can do that than I'm thinking she just may be a content baby. R doesn't crawl but he loves to stand. DH never crawled but walked early. It's always good to be vigilant but don't stress too much.
  • I've got an immobile baby. He loves sitting and can lean over to grab things. However, he cannot get to the sitting position on his own. He also doesn't get on all fours, scoot, crawl or stand. He's a happy baby though. So I try not to worry about it.
  • Ds is a may 31 baby. He can sit on his own but still topples over frequently. He also doesn't scoot unless someone puts their hand behind his feet to assist. He can't get on all fours yet and doesn't appear to be close to crawling. He pretty much rolls to get to where he wants to be.

  • Thanks for the responses! Are all of your babies rolling?

  • Don't freak out yet! S is born at the beginning of the month and she didn't actually start rolling until a couple weeks ago. I was in your boat because at our 6 month appt, our pedi was really surprised, but he was holding off on doing anything until our 9 month. Now that she's figured out the whole rolling thing, she's also moving around a whole lot more. Some babies just do it all at one time I guess.

  • Thanks guys! I'm happy for her to be immobile as long as there are no issues. :) Maybe she will pick it all up at once too.

  • My LO was born a few days after yours, and he isn't mobile yet.  He sits up very well and likes to stand, but no sign of crawling just yet.  He doesn't get into a sitting position on his own, unless he's propped up on the Boppy. As for rolling, he does go from belly to back, which drives me crazy because it's hard to get that tummy time in! He will go on all fours if I position him that way.  I figure eventually he'll do that on his own the more he practices.

I'm not that worried because he is meeting all his other milestones.
