Worried- Advice?

Hey everyone,
I am 7 weeks and 4 days preg. I just got back from my first U/S and the doc was able to see baby in the cervix and also see a strong heartbeat.
My concern is that I have been spotting, pretty heavily some days, and lighter other days. The doc also looked at my cervix and she said that its closed like it should be but there is bleeding. She said bleeding could be a sign of miscarriage.
Now even though I saw a great ultrasound and heartbeat...miscarriage is all I can think about :(
Has anyone else had problems with bleeding? Any advice would be so much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

  • My old boss spotted through out her entire first trimester, it can be pretty normal for some people. Does your Dr want to see you again for a follow up??

Just wanted to say I'm in the same boat -- great u/s but on and off bleeding and spotting (it was red on Monday and I thought I was m/cing). My dr has me on no sex or exercise until 12 weeks and progesterone supplements. I try to remember that "today I am pregnant" but it is very, very hard not to worry (especially being pgal). Please keep us posted, you are in my thoughts!

eta, agree with pp that spotting can happen in a healthy pregnancy, we should both try and remember that :)

  • Like PP have said, bleeding isn't always normal but it can be very common.  Did your doctor give you any follow up directions and do they want to see you again?

A cousin of mine had bleeding throughout her entire pregnancy on and off. She was also on progesterone during the first trimester, but she had a big healthy baby girl. Celebrating her 1st birthday in a month!

  • If the doc isn't too worried, try not to worry. I spotted with my first, and now have some heavier bleeding with this one. I had an ultrasound this morning and baby is doing well! I know it's hard not to worry when you bleed, but try to relax! Your baby is doing well, and your cervix is closed; I hope you are able to relax and get some rest this weekend.

  • Thank you all for your posts.
Yes, I follow up in two weeks with another ultrasound. Doc suggested to relax, no physical activity for next few weeks.
Just crossing my fingers and praying!
Thank you again! Good luck to you all!
  • My sister had bleeding during the first half of all three of her pregnancies, because of placenta previa. She has to take it easy for awhile, but about midway through her pregnancies it corrects itself and she is fine. Hoping that, or something similar, is your case too! Try to stay positive!

  • I miscarried my first pregnancy and am now, 4.5 years later, pregnant with twins on progesterone supplements. Had an ultrasound Monday, saw two heartbeats and started spotting brown Wednesday. Have not had sex or any exercise since we found out. Today I went to the mall with family and within an hour of walking around my spotting got a little worse and seemed to be a bit more red than brown. I immediately came home and have been laying down since, haven't spotted since and even just had a puking session. My doctor said the spotting was normal and to only worry if I had severe cramping or started bleeding like my period, but I'm not taking any chances. I might only be 2 months in but people are on bed rest for a reason, it has to help somehow! I have my next ultrasound Tuesday and pray that all is well, but I plan on taking it easy until then. Sometimes things are beyond our control, but don't push yourself - you know your body better than anyone.
  • My cousin had so much bleeding (every 4 weeks) in the first trimester that she didn't know she was pregnant! She found out around 12-14 weeks. She now has a very healthy 7yr old little boy. Bleeding isn't always a bad thing!

Best of luck! Hope it stops soon for you!

  • I thought I'd throw this in there as well for potential reasons to bleed. I had a sub chorionic hemmorage with my previous pregnancy - basically I had a pocket of blood that was sitting in there. They can bleed like a period and make you think you are losing the baby. They can be big or small. There are many reasons to bleed ( some bad some not ). As long as your doctor says the baby is still in there - hang onto that.

I'm paranoid - so I have a home doppler - and have been able to find the baby from 9 weeks..... I check periodically just to calm myself down.

  • My sister had it throughout her first trimester due to a low sitting placenta. They told her to just rest as much as possible.

  • Everyone gave good advice.  Talk to you doctor about your concerns and they might be able to come your worreis further.  TnP everything is ok.
  • Again, thank you all so much. The encouragement really helps! <3
