Parenting after a Loss

Jessiebug

Hi! We haven't chatted in a while about twin stuff! I have so many questions!
- Have your sweet babies turned into angry toddlers yet? Oh my goodness! M&N have tantrums and throw their bodies on the ground and throw food and fight, bite, scream and get into EVERYTHING. It's exhausting. It's almost worse than the first 3 months.
- How long until they got used to the Radians? We've had them 2 months and Mila still screams every car ride.
- How's bath time going? Are they standing up in the bathtub and giving you a small anxiety attack when they fall in the tub?
- Anyone walking yet? M&N want so badly to walk but they can't so they want me to walk them around all day. Which I can't because there is only one of me.
- What's nap time like? Did they move to 1 nap a day or still on 2?
- Did you ditch the bottles yet? How did it go? We still have to give up the nighttime bottles.
- Have you guys taken a plane ride yet? We are taking a family trip in March and I'm scared. Very scared.

Re: Jessiebug

  • I will take a glass of wine please. And maybe some champagne after that ;)

The toddler craziness just started on Monday. My local MOM friends say it's a phase and they are either teething and/or learning new milestones so they're frustrated. Completely understandable because they want to walk and can't communicate as well as they'd like. Still makes for some looooonnnngggg days.

Mila did hate the infant seat so I was super excited about the Radian but she's not too happy. I may move her to the window (she's in the middle now since I was excited for them to be next to each other).

I just got rid of the bath seats. It was so hard to wash their bums! I ordered an extra long mat from Amazon and it came in today so hopefully it will be a little safer. My DH gets home at 11pm so misses all baths during the week unfortunately!

Congratulations on being bottle free! Which cups are you loving? I just ordered 4 Munchkin  straw cups so once I figure out which ones don't leak on me I'll be ready to ditch the night time bottles. What time do they eat and go to bed? I do dinner at 5 and bed at 7. They are starving by 4:45 so not sure I can put it off any more than that.

Can you tell me more about how you ended the milk before bed? How did they handle just having the milk with dinner and not after bath/before bed (except for that little bit)? I'm nervous they will wake up for breakfast at 5am, haha.

I'm getting the blissful naps from them now! I'm shocked that their morning nap has stretched from 1 hour to 1.5-2. They are fighting me a little on the afternoon nap so I'm not sure what that's all about.

-Teethbrushing used to be their favorite but now they want to do it themselves. I happen to have a 3rd one so whomever's teeth I'm brushing gets to hold the extra and I sneak in some brushes while they "help." Once or twice I gave up and just used a damp washcloth because it wasn't worth it.

For speech- Mila says "hi," "mama," "dada," and I swear she used to say "nana" for banana but I haven't heard it for a month. Some days she will say "thank you." Nico says, "mama," "dada," "thank you," "ohhhhhh," "go," "uh oh," and can imitate just about any animal sound.  He is babbling all day long and  really trying to repeat mostly anything he hears. So in this case I'm more concerned with Mila. I didn't realize 15 months there was a goal of 10 words. Our babies get another month if you adjust the age so maybe it will be ok!

Speaking of delays...Nico isn't crawling, sitting up from a laying down position, pulling up, etc. He is in PT. He's made a lot of progress but I'm still worried. He is not motivated to crawl but is very interested in walking so hopefully he will continue to make more progress and will be walking within a few months.
I agree that it's so hard not to compare! If I had 1 kid I wouldn't be worried about any of these milestones.

How many teeth? N has 8 plus 1 or 2 on the way and M has 5.

Have you let them watch TV yet? I haven't turned it on much during the day so I'm looking for suggestions for shows I should get my hands on for our big family trip. The plane ride is 6 hours and there is a 2 hour car ride once we get there so my "no tv" rule is being thrown out :)

  • That walker is the cutest! M uses a lion one she got for Chrismas/bday and we have another but N hasn't figured out how to walk that quickly yet. He does stand with it so that's something!
