SO Nanny Questions...

Do you think it would be easier to find a nanny who would work 5 x 10 hour days or someone who only wants part time from about 3-6:30 (pick DD up from daycare and meet DS at the bus stop)?
I am trying to figure out if I will do a full time nanny or a combination of daycare and nanny next year when I am on my own for drop offs and pick ups.  Getting both picked up by 6 at two different locations will be a huge challenge so I am tossing around the idea of a nanny but I prefer the idea of staying at a center for DD.

  • I agree with @privacywanted. The problem I see with hiring a college student, is that their class schedule could change the next semester and you'd end up looking for someone new again. They also might want to have off during Christmas and spring break etc. just something to keep in mind.

  • We only need part time but from 1:30 to 5:30 and it worked out well to have 2 different Nanny's for us that work on different days. They are both finishing college and also have other part time babysitting jobs. For us it has worked out really well.
  • I would line up/apply to centers now, and then test the waters for a PT nanny when it's closer to when you'll have to decide. The other downside to hiring someone young is that they can be flaky.
