Ear infection?

C has been reluctant to eat this weekend. She still nurses to sleep with relative ease, but during the feedings in between naps she will suck for a few seconds, pull off and push me away and cry when I try to put her back on, then suck for a few more seconds and the cycle continues.

She was up every hour last night until we gave her ibuprofen (when she is generally a pretty good sleeper), and friday night was a bit rough too. She has been rubbing her ears (which is a new thing) but only when nursing so I'm not sure if it's because they hurt or if she is just trying to soothe herself. No fever that I can tell, maybe a little fussy but I attributed that to not sleeping well...maybe teething? But I don't see/feel any teeth about to come through (she has 8 already)

I guess I'm just trying to decide if I should go see the pedi. We have her 9 month on Friday and we're always there for hours whenever we go because they overbook (annoying) so I really don't want to go an extra time if I don't have to.

@mishy2006 no we haven't tried taking her temp at night. I'll give that a go! Thanks!

  • L had her first ear infection right before Christmas. She would pop off after eating for only 30 seconds or so and cry. She was pretty fussy and she stopped sleeping through the night (she was a good sleeper) and her temp was 100.1. She was given antibiotics and she was back to normal with 48 hrs. If you think she could have one I would take her rather than waiting a whole week.

  • This sounds exactly like my LO and she is on her second ear infection in 2 weeks. She had a runny nose though and was super clingy and cranky and would not eat any solids. She had an ear infection in her right ear and then when we went back for a follow up she now has one in her left ear. They are no fun. I'd go, rather be safe then sorry.

  • R has constant ear infections. We are one away from having the tubes talk. Every single one he hasn't run a fever over 100.0 or really pulled at his ears. The pressure on his ears when he lays flat is what really hurts him. Maybe try finding a nursing position that keeps her more upright.
  • Thanks ladies! Sorry to post and run but I just thought I'd let y'all know, no ear infection! Yay! The pedi said it was likely teething-related (although that makes me nervous because she has 8 already and the next up on the typical baby teething schedule are first molars...yikes). I appreciate all your input!
