Childbirth Education Class?

I hope there's not a thread on this already, I searched and I didn't see one...

My hospital provides a Childbirth Education Class which goes over labor, delivery, etc...and also it includes a tour of the labor facility. I'm definitely interested in signing up, but the question is when?

For STMs or FTMs who know their stuff, when are you supposed to sign up for for this type of class? And how long before your due date should you take the class?

I am looking at my hospital's schedule online and they offer a class in mid-July (no June for some reason...) Is mid-July cutting it too close if my EDD is the beginning of August? Should I opt for the May class instead? Sheesh...I have so many questions!

I think we took ours starting early August and DS was due October 27. I remember it was really hot out and we'd go our for ice cream after.

So I'd go with May.

P.S. When you call to sign up they will probably suggest when they think you should take the class based on due date. That's basically how we picked our class start date.

Did you call? They usually have a time frame that they want to do in the class in.

I just called and the lady didn't give me any help...she just asked when I wanted to do it. I said "my EDD is the beginning of August, is the July class cutting it too close?" and she said "It's really up to you..."

Ugh. I might ask my doctor or the nurse at my upcoming appointment this next Monday because that lady was CLUELESS.

That's weird there's no June one cause that would be the ideal timing :-( With those two options I would pick May

Our hospital suggested what week to have it completed by. Ours was a 2 day 8 hr each class. I coordinated with the Braves baseball schedule so DH wouldn't miss watching a game.

Even though I had researched a lot, there was still things they taught me. Especially, the hospital protocols.

Go in May, July is cutting it too close. I knew someone whose water broke in class.
