Antibiotics

Have any of you had a sinus infection while pregnant or nursing? If so, what did your doc prescribe? I am miserable today. My DH has a refill left on a Zpack he was prescribed recently that I could go get but for some reason I don't think that is safe for nursing mamas. I will prob end up just going in but was wondering what you girls have taken.

Re: Antibiotics

  • As far as I know that is safe I was prescribed that two times while pregnant due to sinus infections, I would assume its safe for a nursing mamma if you can take it while pregnant, I would just call and ask nurse at docs office if not sure and your still not comfortable. Hope you feel better soon

  • I took it while I had mastitis, but not before arguing bc with my PCP who was unfamiliar with the effects on nursing. Long story short, I called both my LC and LO's ped and they said it was perfectly fine to take it while nursing. I also had another antibiotic for a sinus infection in the fall.. I think most/almost all antibiotics are safe to take. I say get the zpak! I hate sinus infections. Feel better!

  • Turns out I'm a mess! I have an ear infection AND sinus infection. She gave me a Rx for Augmentin!! Started a probiotic and she ok'd mucinex too in case you guys wonder if it's ok to take, she said it is.
  • Feel better! Take the highest count probiotic you can. Your body gets rid of what it doesn't need, so better more than less.
  • Sorry I'm late to the convo but wanted to add my .02. I'm taking both Mucinex and Omnicef (antibiotic). I've noticed a drop in my supply. I seem to be able to produce enough to feed LO but am not necessarily pumping as much as I normally do. I usually pump extra (5-8 oz) in the AM and sometimes pump another 3-5 oz in the evenings. I am hoping its something temporary due to the Mucinex but will be keeping my eye on it. Just thought I'd mention to you all as well.
    Hope you feel better soon!
