Car seats.....

Anyone have any suggestions on the convertible seats!?! Pros & cons?!?! When  I was a nanny I used Britax, Graco & Eddie Bauer.... Thought I'd see if anyone had any they loved or hated since they are always changing. I know I like the Britax brand myself!

Thanks :-)

Re: Car seats.....

  • We have Britax Boulevards and Evenflo Symphonys.  I like them both, but I prefer the Britax - it is less bulky than the Evenflo.  I find them both easy to install and use.

  • After a ton of research for my LO's convertible seat we bought the Chicco Nextfit.  The other option we almost purchased was the Britax Boulevard.  We are currently using the Britax B-safe until DD grows out of it.
  • We have a Chicco Nextfit and a Britax Roundabout for our two cars. I somewhat regret getting the NextFit. It's not an awful seat, but has a number of first generation flaws - I find the straps painfully difficult to tighten, the shoulder pads are very firm, it gets hot in the summer, and the fabric gets chewed up easily. I heard that they changed the shoulder pads in models manufactured since this last fall, which would help - and I think you can order replacements, which I might do. It installs the car very easily, and should last a long time. I think the Roundabout is easier to use than the NextFit (and installs just as well), though Britax seats have shorter shells and don't last as long. We mainly got the Roundabout because it was the first seat we found that installed well and didn't take up much room RFing in our second car, which is a coupe. We even got the RA to rear face on an airplane in coach.

I decided to avoid Graco because I heard a number of stories of kids (one being my nephew) being able to easily undo the chest clip. I was really interested in the First Years True Fit, which supposedly has high ease of use ratings, but my petite son fit very poorly in the harness of the floor model.
  • Diono and chicco, britax convertibles if your child is under the 30%.

  • Our RF Convertible is a Britax - Super easy to use, fits nicely, adjusts easily without taking the seat out, OTOH, rather spendy and there isn't a booster option so down the road we'll have to get a high-back booster for that vehicle... Our FF are Graco Nautilus 3in1's... There are a few things about the Nautilus' that I don't really care for (fit isn't perfect though it gets the job done), OTOH, the built-in cup holder and "secret compartment" for kids stuff to fall into is great. The nice thing about these is that they go from FF, to high-back booster, to booster rather easily..

  • We have the Britax Boulevard 70 and we love it!

  • We have a Britax Roundabout 55 for my husband's car and a Peg Perego for my car. We've been happy with both, but for RF, the Peg was definitely more comfy for my son - more leg room than the Britax.
  • If you haven't already, check out the group called "Car Seats for the Littles" on Facebook - it's a group of car seat techs across the country/Canada who give advice based on your LO's size, your car, and budget.  It is super helpful, and I've learned a lot about different seats just from reading past posts.

We have a Diono Radian since our LO is on the taller side and we want to rear-face past 2 if possible.  GL!
