How long between feedings?

My LO will b 6 weeks on Monday. I feed her on demand.
The last few days she's been sleeping about 5 hours between feedings. Is this too long? Should I wake her after 4?

Re: How long between feedings?

  • Good job to your LO! My pediatrician said that if LO is past 2 wks and past birth weight (and still gaining) and peering enough (6-8 diapers/day) to let him sleep!

  • I suppose you should bring it up to your pediatrician as mine said to not let baby go more then 4 to 5 hours at night.

  • My doc said to only wake if she hasn't gained birth weight back. If your little one is gaining weight just fine then let LO sleep.
  • My pedi said that after she reached her birth weight to let her sleep!

  • Oh yeah she's well past her birth weight and gaining like a champ. Woo hoo I'll take the sleep thank you!!!
  • @marybb77 my ds is 6w1d, and we let him sleep as long as he will at night. We get some 4-5 hour stretches also. Woot woot! During the day I feed him on demand or every 3 ish hours. Whichever comes first. :)

This. We got our first 5-6 hour stretch of sleep last night and it was awesome, check with your pediatrician but as long as your LO is back at birth weight and gaining well, sleep.

  • I want a 5-6 hour stretch!  Hopefully by 6 weeks my LO will be as considerate as these babies are :)

  • My 3 week old is eating every 1.5-2 hours. SO jealous.

  • @jblank03 & @gina0485 if it makes you feel any better DD ate every 1.5-2.5 hours yesterday and refused to be put down. I see her long stretch of sleep as a reward for dealing with all that especially since DH went out with a friend after work and was home later than usual.

  • My LO is three weeks old and past his birth weight so I let him sleep and feed him when he wakes during the night. Which is usually every 2-3 hours. During the day, I feed on demand and it's usually between 2-3 hours depending how fussy he is.

  • So jealous! My LO is almost 7 weeks and still eats every 1-2 hours around the clock.

I wouldn't dare wake him if he was going 4-5 :)

  • I've got a while before our 2 week old gives us 5-6 hour blocks of sleep! But hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!
  • @jessiejam at 4 days old I would wake every 2 hours. My LO was very sleepy those first 2 weeks and would sleep through feeds if I didn't wake him up. (The jaundice didn't help either).
