Car Seat Question? Fender Bender

So this morning DH and Sawyer were on their way to day care and apparently DH got rear ended while switching lanes.  There is hardly any damage to either vehicle (just a scratched bumper on DH's car).  I wasn't in the car so I don't know exactly how hard they were hit but no one was hurt (they were approaching a red light so neither vehicle was going very fast).  Anyway, do I need to replace the car seat.  My gut is telling me yes, but I would like to get some other opinions.  Thanks!

Re: Car Seat Question? Fender Bender

  • Yes. If your insurance doesn't cover the car seat the person who hit you should have to cover it. We went through this in April. More damage though to my car. I didn't have carseat coverage but the guy who hit us had to pay for a new one. It took about 8 months to get the check but ours had to go to ligation for other reasons.

  • We did when my MIL was in an small accident with our car. Our insurance was really good about it.  The told us to go buy a new one immediately and then sent us a form we sent receipt and form back and they reimbursed us.  It was really easy.

  • I would call the maker of your carseat and ask them. They may have specific rules about when a carseat needs to be replaced.

  • The manual doesn't say anything about replacing it in an accident.  The carseat will be less than our deductible though so we might as well just go and get one.  I doubt we will file a claim for DH's car since it is only a scratch and not worth it to put it on the insurance.

  • I second checking with the manufacturer.  I would probably replace it though, Babies R Us is having a trade in sale.

  • Yes. Most car seats say to replace no matter the accident. And like pp said, there are a lot of sales right now and insurance should cover it.

    Glad everyone is ok!

  • Thanks...I am glad that everyone is okay as well.  Although they both already went home since Sawyer has a fever of 101.7 and can't be at school.  It is one thing after another.  Thank goodness it is the weekend!

  • Glad everyone is ok! I would probably replace the carseat as well, especially if it will make you feel better as well.  If you have a membership to Costco I saw the convertible ones there for $69
