3YO saying his legs hurt at night

Does anyone have any experience with this?  My son will wake up at night crying saying that his legs hurt.  They're not asleep, I don't think, because he doesn't have issues walking when they hurt.  He said it this morning, too.  This happens sometimes several times a week.
Anyone?  I've called the pedi to make sure it's cool and not some weird circulation issue.  My wife seems to think it's growing pains.

    Growing pains is the first thing that came to mind. I remember it actually hurting to grow. That said, if you are concerned, call your pedi.
    After 2 years of TTC, our daughter was born on Oct 31, 2011!

    My son will also say his legs or knees hurt. I also think his are growing pains.

    I had the same thing w my older son since prob about the age of 3. Ended up even getting it checked by ortho doc and he said growing pains. He said to try massaging it but also Advil. Works like a charm now that I know what it is. I know it stinks, but 99 percent sure it's nothing to worry about.

    I asked DD's pediatrician about her leg pains a couple weeks ago because she recently started complaining about the same thing (she just turned 4). She said it was most likely a combination of growing pains and DD dancing around on her tippy toes a lot. If your concerned I would ask your pediatrician just to be sure.

    I had terrible growing pains for years. It is really painful for some. It helps to massage the feet and legs. It wouldn't hurt to bring it up to the doctor if you are concerned. I also had poor arch support which made it worse so the doctor suggested special insoles

    Thanks, everyone!  I bet it's growing pains and I feel a bit better.  But they want to see him anyway.  Since he is autoimmune he can be at risk for more crap lol.  In the meanwhile, I am going to try the advil and rubbing his legs when he complains!
