I know there are no 'dumb' questions...but this might be close to one.
For my last miscarriage I had retained tissue after the doctor gave me misprostol in Aug so that's why I ended up with a D&C in September. My betas dropped to 0 immediately after the procedure.
My question is will low betas (mine are at 75 now) drop without bleeding? Or am I to assume that they won't drop unless I have more bleeding?
Thought I would ask here first to see if you ladies had any experience with this....
IVF #1, Stimmed for 12 days, ER 8/22/14, 9 retrieved, 7M, 7F!! Freeze all due to fluid in uterus.
FET end of October 2014 cancelled due to fluid in uterus due to possible c-scar defect
Surgery scheduled 12/12/14 to fix possible isthmocele
3/26/15 transferred one 8 cell grade 4 embryo and one 6 cell grade 3 embryo = slow rising betas for 2+ weeks = ectopic MTX shot 4/29/15
Repeat c-scar surgery June 2015
2nd and last IVF cycle August 2015, stimmed for 12 days, 2 egg retrieved, both mature and both fertilized. Transferred both 8-cell embryos on Day 3, beta 9/5/15 = BFFN
I am by no means an expert, but I can tell you that my betas took a long time to drop, and they definitely continued to drop long after my bleeding had stopped. I am sure that some other ladies will know more. (((HUGS)))
After my natural miscarriage, by betas continued to drop after I stopped bleeding (it took about 3 weeks I think, starting at 750 when I was in the ER). For me, the lower they got, the slower they fell. They did eventually make it to 0, it just took time. I hope that your body takes care of this on its own and you don't need a D&C. More (((HUGS)))!
It should keep dropping. The articles I read said that betas drop an average of 50% every 38-ish hours (IIRC), so to get an estimate of when you'll hit 0, just divide your # by 2 every 2 days.
Doing that, I project that my betas should be low enough for a negative hpt sometime next week, and down to 0 about a week after that.
It takes time, unfortunately :P

I'm glad you posted this...and had some answers from knowledgable bumpies! By betas were 88,000 the day before my D&C, however I have no clue what they are today since they are not tracking them down. I am still testing positive on a HPT as of Wednesday, so they are certainly nowhere close to zero. Sorry I have no real advice!
I'm not sure I exactly understand the question, but with my mm/c was 'missed' by 5+ weeks, and I got a negative pg test by 3 weeks after the mc. It was very faint the week before that. I guess what I'm saying is my hcg was dropping before the mc, without bleeding. [I didn't get hcg drawn with that mc]
With my cp I had a hcg of 15, then 10, then bled for 1.5 days, then the next was 4. I didn't get it tested after that. I understand your situation is a little different, but I think you don't have to be actively bleeding for your hcg to go down.

I had betas drawn on 1/13 and they were 72. I had another round of betas drawn on 1/21 and they were down to 17. I had very little spotting between those dates, and my betas still dropped. I would think if your betas were at 75 to begin with, there shouldn't be much bleeding, and they should drop on their own.
Many ((hugs)), love.

I just wanted to add one thing - you will probably bleed at some point. I mean, at some point your progesterone will fall like it does in a non-pregnant cycle, and if you haven't bled by then, that will make you bleed. Unless you're retaining tissue or something. So if your betas go down to 0, you will bleed at some point if you haven't already. Not sure if that makes sense...

@snegde I had them done on Tuesday (95) and Thrusday (75) between those days I had one major gush and nothing since. Before that it was just what I thought was my period Jan 17-22. I go back on Monday for betas for my current doctor and I'm going to bring along the other script from my family friend.

Mine were 30k on Dec 27 day learning of mmc. I passed the sac on Jan 1 with very little bleeding and over three weeks it was 8.9 by last Wed. and just started af bleed on Tues.
I am so sorry you are going through this. I don't know how much this helps, but I had betas drawn on 1/8 and they were 320-ish. On 1/10, they actually went up to 345. I had them drawn again 3 days later on 1/13, and they had gone down to 14. I started bleeding heavily on 1/10, and by 1/15 the bleeding had stopped. Betas were a zero by 1/22.
Again, sorry for your loss @frenchteachermama - it is a long slow process down and for me was one of the most frustrating parts of the whole process. They should continue to come down in time, the bleeding is not related to the beta levels. Although, from what I understand you will not have AF until your betas are less than 5. For me I think that took about 7 weeks or so. At four weeks out I seemed to stall out once I got to 20 and it took another 3 weeks for it get down to less than 5.
So sorry you're going through this. You're in my thoughts.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. My RE says that my levels should continue to drop, even without bleeding. I'm 7 weeks post mc and still at 15. I had AF three weeks ago (28 days after mc) and yet, my levels are still not at zero. I'm so tired of/ sad about being poked to track this down. I'm sorry you are also dealing with it.
