I think of Queen Victoria's consort, which on the whole is not a bad association.
I have a cousin whose name is Albert, though everyone calls him Bert. He was named for our great-great grandfather, Albert Bert (yes that was his name).
I like it. I think it's refreshing and ready for a comeback.
I know old fashioned names are really IN these days but I'm really over this trend already! It seems like people are trying to out do each other on ugliest names! To me it's just harsh sounding, and difficult for anyone to say without sounding nasally.

"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."
I'm relatively indifferent regarding Albert, but I have not one complaint about it. It's a great, honorable name and has several nicknames, should you ever choose to use one.
I don't really care for Albert. On a whole, I love older names that are making a comeback, but for this one in particular, Albert just doesn't really sound appealing.
thanks so much ladies, really appreciate all the feedback and comments! I'm torn for all the same negatives listed here, but love the positives and it does have significance in my family too, so...we shall see. thank you!!
I love it. I mean, with names like Gretchen, Magnolia, and Iszahbellah popping up, I don't get why people would consider Albert to be a tease-worthy name. It's classic and cute, and only a little quirky. I highly support it
my grandfather is albert, so i think of older people generally. BUT i do love that caroline from rhonj calls her albert jr, albie and i think that makes it an adorable name for a child.
I love it. We're strongly considering Alfred if this LO is a boy. I feel it has nicer NN options than Albert (Alfie, Fred, Freddie). Have you considered Alfred?
I think it is dated. I see a pudgy little whiny boy or crotchety old man. I really really dislike this name. It makes me cringe. I normally don't have this strong of a response to names, but this one really bugs me for some reason.

I personally like it - though my DH and I love antiquated names. I feel they are much stronger than a lot of modern names thrown around today. I also wouldn't worry about them being associated with "old" people either. Remember - those elderly people were babies at one time too. They weren't always 97 years old. So a toddler named Albert is not unheard of.
I have an 8 year old nephew named Albert (he goes by Albie). He was named after his father (who goes by Bert), grandfather (who goes by Al) and then a few more generations back as well. He doesn't get picked on for his name at all, and while I don't really care for it myself I can't see any reason why he would.
It's not one I would use but I would think it was adorable on someone else's kid. I like the Alfred suggestion too- nn Alfie is mega-popular in the UK.
Re: albert - totally dated or kind of refreshing?

I agree, that's the very first thing I thought about when I heard the name... the "Prince Albert" piercing. Yuck.
