Anyone started potty training?

What signs did LO show that they were ready? Are they wearing pull ups yet? Any success stories yet?

We have started, and yes I know its early.
We did this by introducing her to the potty, letting her sit on it, etc.  She has a comfy potty seat and we give her a goldfish cracker or 2 if she sits nicely.  We also have books, a See & Say, etc in there to keep her occupied.

We try to take her in at least 2x/day around the time when she poops, or a little while after she's had a lot to drink.  At this point, I think her going on the potty is good timing more than anything.  We had a number of successful pees, but no poops.

Today she was at the dinner table, lifted a butt cheek and started making a face.  Then she did the sign for "more" (which means she wants a goldfish cracker) and I asked if she had to poop.  She eagerly nodded "yes" and pointed to the bathroom!  We took her, but I think she got potty shy--no poop on the potty, but as soon as we got her diaper on (literally, it was 30 seconds) she crapped.

Before this, she'd tell us when she was wet or pull on her diaper.  Thats when we decided to start.
This is great! It sounds like she is on her way. I notice DD has started grabbing herself and fighting me when i put diapers on her. She is also WAY interested when we go to the bathroom. I have put her on the seat a few times but no luck yet. I am mostly trying to time it just right and am going to start paying more attention.

Is she wearing pull ups or anything yet?

  • We are trying, everytime we do a diaper change, we tell her to sit on her potty for which she is more then happy to, and before she gets up she flushes the handle and it makes a princess sound. She hasn't gone yet in the potty but she is happy to sit on it and we figure eventually she will understand. As for being ready, she is showing interest, she hates being dirty and pulls at her diaper or she'll go and get her change pad, a diaper, and wipes out of her bag, come to me and lay out the mat, hand me the diaper, and then lay down on the mat (it is soo cute).

We also can ask her if she is dirty and she will either say yes or no.

  • We haven't truly started "training" per se, but K has pooped in the potty 3 times and peed maybe 5 or 6 since we ordered a potty for him like 2 weeks ago. I just place him on there around the times he typically goes #2 and tell him "go poopoo". He knows what to do. Sometimes he will grunt and toot and nothing and then poop in his diaper 15 mins later, and sometimes he will poop. He usually at least pees when I set him on there.

As of right now, I am the one deciding when he needs to sit on the potty, not him. I think the hard part is for them to gain the self awareness that they actually need to go before its too  late. I'm not sure how close K is to that, but at least he knows what a potty is for!

  • Yes. Cooper wears pull ups and uses the potty for both pee and poop. She doesn't usually ask to sit on it but we put her on the potty and she goes. At home she wears panties but if I foret to put her on the potty she will have an accident every time

  • DS is interested when we go to the bathroom (he demands to be in the room and yells "pee pee!!") but he's nowhere near being ready to do it himself. I'm trusting the school he'll be in to tell us if they think he's ready.

  • Nowhere near ready. Robert has acknowledged that he pooped after us asking only twice in his life. He usually ignores us when we ask and could care less if he is wet or dirty, and has never indicated it on his own. I do need to get a potty seat and start sitting him on it in the morning and before bath time just to get him used to it.

  • Avery shows some interest, but we're not ready yet. We will do pull ups until she poops consistently in the potty. Then we will switch to the training underpants.

We tried the pull up route with DD#1 and it didn't work because they are absorbent like a diaper.

  • I have her sit on it in the morning when i go, but just to get familiar with it.

  • No where near ready here...   He couldn't care less if he is wet or dry.  Doesn't like to get changed either.  So, we're waiting till at least he shows some signs of being ready.  It would be nice to not have two kids in diapers, but I don't see him being ready before baby #2 comes along.

  • We aren't training at all yet.  I do put him on the potty before his bath every night.  The number of times he has peed on the floor after I took his diaper off made me think he might by chance pee in the toliet, but so far nothing.  He hated it at first, but we took a couple weeks off and now he will sit there calmly for a couple minute.

He does tell me honestly if I ask him if he has pooped, so I think that is a good sign.  He doesn't tell me on his own, but hasn't ever been wrong when I ask him.
