Re: Pregnant & TTC After A Preemie 01/24/14

  • Well I had my first scare this week at 23w5d. I'd been feeling some pressure between my legs - like a swelling/achy feeling. I let it go for a couple of days, but finally called the OB just because I know I can't take any chances. They had me come in, and my cervix is still long and closed. They did an FFN already, which was negative. So I'm in the clear for a little while!

My P17 shots have been driving me NUTS lately - so much itching and burning. The bumps that go along with it are so gross! Any remedies?

  • The a/s went great!! Baby girl is actually measuring ahead! That's a new one :) I had some high BP readings last week but the doctor says everything looks good!

Hope everyone else is having a great week!

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • Thrilled that I made it to 36 weeks this week. It's all new to me since DD Madeline came at 32 weeks. I'm starting to feel the woes of the 3rd trimester. I'm really tired, my feet and ankles swell, and I'm so congested from bad allergies. Otherwise everything is great. Had a great appt with my dr last week. Baby boy is measuring right on time and is 6 lbs already. Big boy! Trying to prepare myself for pushing out a big baby since DD was only 3 lbs 9 oz. I also got a 3D ultrasound last week and got to see how cute he is. Can't wait to meet him!

I had bloodwork done on Monday and the numbers came back that I am in fact pregnant. I have an early ultrasound Tuesday (Jan 28th) because I just need to know that it is only 1 this time and my first OB appt on Thursday (Jan 30th). I can't wait for this because I am so nauseous that I need some help. I also forgot how bad 1st tri fatigue is. It's definitely kicking my butt especially chasing 2 very active toddlers around all day. I will update after my ultrasound Tuesday. FX ladies that it is just 1 healthy baby like I'm thinking it is. Update: the tech only saw 1 baby in there was a flickering heartbeat. Boy am I relieved!

  • Hi all, haven't been a regular in a long time, but I'm pregnant again and on modified bedrest so I have lots of time on my hands. DS#1 was born at 29w4d due to PTL and a partial abruption. My docs initially thought that my preterm contractions may have been due to an undetected partial abruption that pulled away more leading to labor, now we know that it's probably more likely my cranky uterus.

I started contracting at 16 weeks with this pregnancy. They were manageable until I was hospitalized at 25w0d for contractions every 1-2 mins for 3 hours that only spaced once on magneisum. My cervix stayed closed and long; although it was long when I was admitted in labor with my son. I stayed inpatient for 3 days through my beta window and then went home on Nifedipine and modified bedrest. So far, so good. I'm really excited to make it to 27 weeks tomorrow and have a cervical length check. Hoping for no news tomorrow and more of the same.

  • @MinaE01 Glad that your cervix is long and closed and that FFN is negative! Positive thoughts and prayers coming your way! I did not have a reaction to the shot other than itching on the site-have you tried that HR board or a separate post on the preemie board?

@flerlgrl Yay for baby girl measuring ahead and anatomy scan going well! :)

@ShannonSky Happy to hear everything is ok! I also moved when I was pg and it was not fun-I can't even imagine doing it with 2 other kids and being pg with twins! (Which by the way, I need to change your thing to Baby 3 AND 4 due in May. :-) Congrats on your boys and a 24 week scan going well! :)

@Alphaphi98 Isn't 3rd tri great? I was unsympathetic to people were in 3rd tri and uncomfortable, but after I went through it, I understood a little. :-) So happy for you! \:D/

@megs2011 So happy that your pregnancy was confirmed-now crossing fingers that there's only one in there! ;)

@haziedaze Welcome to the group! I will add you to the list. Sending you thoughts and prayers  that cervix behaves and baby stays put!

  • @MinaE01 Are you self injecting or having a nurse do it? I self inject, so this may or may not be helpful. You could also talk to your RN and see if any of these techniques might help. I had some problems early on but some technique changes have helped a lot. First, I think I wasn't getting mine in quite deep enough. I inject on my thighs. I was putting the 1.5 inch needle just a little more than half way in. I now put it a little more than 3/4 the way in and that seems to have helped. I also make push the meds in slowly and consistently like over 30 seconds. I put a little ai bubble in the syringe so that the needle is cleared out by the air after all the meds go in. When all the med is in I wait about 10s before taking the needle out. I also used to massage like crazy and now I just apply pressure. All of this has made a huge difference for me.

Another thought, when I got my betamethasone in the hospital once nurse did the shot in the side of my hip instead of the top of my butt. She went slow and it barely hurt and didn't bruise or anything. The second one they did at the top of my butt went in fast, hurt like hell and then bruised like crazy. I conclude that technique really matters!

  • I had some light spotting yesterday, everything checks out ok, but one of the smaller cysts that i had on my ovary is gone so the dr suspects it may have been the cause. He couldnt find any other possible reasoning for it. Scared the daylights out of me, but we are ok. He told me to keep a close eye out for it happening again, so I'm in high alert paranoid mode.

  • @rslhmg I am glad everything turned out ok. Any kind of spotting/bleeding is always a scary experience. I hope that's the last you have of those!

28 weeks today. Had a growth ultrasound. Baby boy is estimated at 3 lb. 2 oz. and 70th percentile! DD was born at 29 weeks and was only 2 lb. 0 oz. due to growth restriction as a result of my pre-e/HELLP, so I am feeling very blessed with the good news. BP still spectacularly low: 94/60-some today! My MFM specialist told me she has no reason to believe that I will have any of the problems I had in my first pregnancy. I am very hopeful, but still hesitant to celebrate just yet. My milestone for when DD was born is one week away exactly!

I hope everyone else has been equally fortunate thus far. Going back to check everyone else's updates now!

@MinaE01 Sorry about the scare, but I'm glad everything checked out!

@flerlgirl What great news about your A/S! Yay! :)

@ShannonSky Glad the babies are doing well! DH, DD, and I are in the process of a move as well. FX for a successful closing for you!

@alphalphi98 You're doing great! I'm glad what you are experiencing are just the normal pregnancy woes! Good luck with L&D; it's just around the corner!

@megs2011 Yay for one healthy baby! I hope the nausea passes quickly and that you have a VERY H&H 9!

@haziedaze Welcome (back)! FX that your cervix behaves and all goes according to plan! Congrats on 27 weeks!

@rslhmg Sorry about the scare, but glad everything is alright so far! Best wishes!

  • Hello I'm new here! My name is Anastasia and I had my daughter last March at 23 weeks gestation due to incompentent cervix (began shortening at 18 weeks) I am 17 weeks pregnant and very high risk for another premature baby but I just had an ultrasound last week an everything is good so far. Crossing my fingers I can have baby closer to full term!! My doctor will not give the preventative cerclage because she feels as long as I'm on modified bed rest I won't need it... :/ anyone here have a micro preemie and then their next baby closer to full term?
