I always wonder what these lists are based on... Elizabeth is always in the top 10, and I only went to school with ONE other Elizabeth in all 13 years of public school education.
I'm always intrigued by these lists. Some of these names must be more common in different regions too. In 8 years of teaching in SF, I've only had 3 girls' and 2 boys' names from that list. And Logan is supposedly in the top 20 or so but we've never had a Logan at our school, and we have a student body of 600 kids.
Interesting that there are 4 Ryans in Ryan's class and it didn't make the top 10. (and none from the boy's Top 10 -- perhaps because they're all named Ryan...)
My least favorite thing about the name we chose (Madison) is it's current popularity. And the fact that TWO of the girl names on the top 10 have the same nickname (Maddie) might be trouble.
Oh well, I love the name so I'm not changing my mind.
There are huge regional differences. For instance Natalie is in the top 10 in California, and Spanish names are a lot more popular here and in Texas than in most other states. If this is the official SSA list, it does not include middle names, and it does not include variant spellings of the same names.
Re: Top baby names of 2008.
I so wanted to name N, Elizabeth. But it's her middle name instead.
Interesting, I think Olivia has been on the top ten for like 3 years now.

There are sooo many Isabella's in Bella's grade. Not in her class, but in the 6 Kindergarten classes there are about 4.

I don't think it is available online for 2008 yet, but there is a state by state popularity of names.
