Mamaroo .. Yay or nay?

So I'm thinking of getting a mamaroo for our next baby (the motor for the swing we had with DD is shot after letting family borrow) and I definitely want to replace it.

Does anyone have experience with this swing? I hear it doesn't take up much space, which is a huge bonus because we have so little room already. I also figure that with the completion discount from amazon and a giftcard we have from Christmas I can get the solid color for less than $100 total - which is less than we would pay for a replacement cradle swing.

I'd love to hear if it was a good/bad purchase and worth the additional cost!

  • I don't have any advice but I saw that they just came out with the Rockaroo, which is a little less expensive but I'm not sure if its more of a bouncer.

  • I don't have any experience yet as I'm a FTM, but I'm definitely putting this on my registry in place of other bouncer/swing type things.  Their claim-to-fame is that you should only need this instead of a bunch of other things, so we'll see.  From those I know who have them they all love it!

  • I don't have any personal experience with it, but it is #1 on the list of things I plan to purchase for this baby.  My BFF bought one for her DD and said it was, by far, the best purchase she ever made.  Her daughter is 13 months and still uses it daily.  My DS hated his swing (he hated being put down, ever, really) and I'm willing to shell out the money in hopes that I'll get some sort of break with this baby!

  • 100% yes! My daughter loved it and took naps in it every day for months! I know that not every baby likes it but for us, it was worth every single penny!

  • We had a graco swing with DD, she didn't like it and it broke. I plan on getting the new rockaroo with this one.

  • Thanks ladies for your advice! I am really hoping that this baby likes the swing. It's a little high for our budget without the discounts and giftcards, but for the sanity it'll (potentially) save me and the fact that it holds it value and can be resold if we don't have a cooperative baby, I think I will be picking it up.

But hot damn that thing is expensive!

  • I am def getting it- I would rather have this one item rather than a bouncer and a swing... And frankly I wanna take a nap in that thing so I am guessing my kid will too:) happy shopping!!!

I've been reading reviews like crazy on this thing and it seems like a mixed bag.  I think the appeal is that it looks sooo good, takes up little space, but I've seen lots of postings on Craigslist in the Bay Area that say, "My child grew out of this in 2 months" or "My child preferred the clunky traditional swings".  That being said, it looks good! It will def go on my registry... I'm thinking I might put one rockaroo and one mamaroo on and see which the babies like the best!

It has a 25lb weight limit which is what most swings have.
I've read the weight limit is the same, which doesn't make sense why a two month old would grow out of it.. I know all babies are different and whatnot, but c'mon. My 2 year old (50% percentile for height and weight) only recently passed that weight. Lol.

  • We have/had it (gave it to my BIL) DD wasn't to impresses with it. Benefits that she sis enjoy it as she got older, 7+ months.

  • We had one in the NICU where I used to work and I loved it! So many cool motions that it can "swing" in and didn't take up much space. I'll be registering for one!

    That's what I was thinking. My toddler is 2y 4m old, and she's 27lbs.

  • I'm thinking of going with the rockaroo. It's a bit spendy considering at the moment my dh is the only one working but I think we can wing it. We have time :)
  • We will be getting one. But like all baby gear - it's a crap shoot about whether or not baby will like it. And there is no predicting that...

  • I just got to play with one at BRU tonight. It was incredible!!! I'm definitely getting one! With the trade in event you can get 25% off. I'm going to get a cheap stroller off craigslist or a goodwill and trade it in. The sale runs to the 17th

@jshrop I might be a bit slow on the uptake - what's the trade in event?
  • I'm seriously contemplating it, but I'm afraid it won't last us long. DS was 12# at birth and 25# by 13 months.

  • The trade in event is where you bring in an old piece of equipment (stroller, car seat, ect) and you get 25% off a new piece of equipment. So, have a broken stroller or expired car seat and trade it on the mamaroo and it's like a $55 coupon! :)

  • I loved ours. Seriously, it takes up way less room than the swing and all the other stuff. My two neices loved it too. My grandparents got for my sister and I in 2011 when we were pregnant together (really my grandma because my grandpa is not hip enough lol). I can't wait to use it with this baby.
