Anyone use a nebulizer recently?

My doc prescribed my LO some albuterol and we have been giving her treatments for 2 days. Her dry cough went from barely there to now she has been coughin all day and it seems a little more productive. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this and what the outcome was. Not sure if her coughing is good bc she is getting the gunk out or if it's not helping at all.

TIA!

Re: Anyone use a nebulizer recently?

  • DD had nebulizer treatments when she was 4 months old. She coughed more after the treatments but breathed better.

  • A is on liquid albuterol, though they may move her to nebulizer soon. Same as pp cough becomes more productive after.

    Hope LO feels better soon!

  • My LO was on them for a while. The dr warned us that baby C could get wired from it, but I didn't notice it. In fact, we would often wait until I rocked him to sleep and then I would do it while he was sleeping.
  • Thanks everyone!

So should I expect the cough to get better soon? My doc wants me to bring her in Saturday if she doesn't improve. She's not coughing at night though and I've noticed her nose has been runny all day. I had to give her benadryl tonight bc she was so congested.

George has this same sickness and has been doing breathing treatments. It's lasted about a week. Each of the past three days he's seemed a little better each day. Sorry she's sick.
Having a sick baby is so sad. Really breaks my heart. I feel for all the momma's out there with sick babies right now.

The first couple of treatments she would just fall asleep after. It seems like hours later though she is super hyper and she is getting the shakes a little :/

Yep, this. We've been doing breathing treatments and we were doing steroids too (she had an upper respitory infection). This was last week, and she's just now herself.
    Glad she is better!

Again, this is my personal experience and childhood memory, so take it with a grain of salt.  If I was super-sick the treatments would bring me enough relief that I could relax and would sleep. As I got better, they would make my heart race/pound and would give me the shakes. The Drs always just said it was a side effect we had to deal with. My mom would usually space out the treatments more when that happened.

Def follow your instinct with the coughing - a call to the dr can't hurt. I would only be medicated for cough if it was nonproductive and to the point that it was sapping my energy. Otherwise, they wanted me coughing so I could clear that gunk out.
I think she only gave it to her for her cough to also get more productive. Today she wanted me to do it every 4 hours and she had the shakes, other than that its 6-8 hours. I hate hate hate seeing her shaking :(

  • Yes, ds was on it for about 10 days. We nebulized every 4 hours. The coughing got worse for several days before he started showing signs of improvement. Now it is gone.

  • LO's cough totally sounded juicier after treatments, but like other posters stated, she breathed better. And the first few days she was all wired after. She would do this weird little laugh for 20 minutes at a time. Like she was stoned. But then she got used to it and would sleep through the treatments.

She does shake after treatment, but I shake after albuterol - so not a huge surprise there!
