Husband got me a free Medela breast pump on free cycle today.  I actually told him to pick it up, knowing how bloody expensive they are.  It's in great shape, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get past the thought of my nurples where someone else's were!  Ew!!

    Get new flanges and tubing. Do you know how long it was used? Sometimes those motors don't hold up well. Free is a good deal though!

    She said she used it for 8m.

    I let my friend borrow mine when her DD was born, and she burned the motor out. So, definitely a possibility.

    That's scary. I don't know if I would reuse a medela pump. If the previous user let milk get backed up into the motor then it isn't going to be cleaned with new tubing & flanges. More than likely she didn't, but it is still possible... There are some brands that don't allow milk to come back into the motor, and those would be completely safe. I might reuse my sister's pump, but I wouldn't a strangers.

    Yeah, I haven't really decided if I'm going to.  I had him pick it up because it doesn't hurt, but I have to debate.

    Yeah, the Medelas aren't generally closed systems, which is what you want to look for in a used pump. You got it for free, so that's awesome, but you might want to look into what your insurance will cover in a new pump (I know that can be a tricky situation, too). GL!
