Trying to Get Pregnant

Myrtle Beach SC, recommendations anyone ?

So we are trying to plan a week in Myrtle Beach this summer.  Anyone have any advice or suggestions to offer ?  We plan on flying and then getting a rental car.   Hoping to find something cheap, oceanfront and in a lesser crowded area of Myrtle Beach.     I know....I don't ask for alot  :)

I planned our Ocean City MD vacation last summer and it seemed much smaller than Myrtle Beach.....I am kinda overwhelmed looking for a place to stay @ Myrtle Beach.

Thank you !!!

Re: Myrtle Beach SC, recommendations anyone ?

  • If you want less crowded, try a different beach. ;)

Seriously, though, when we lived in SC, most of the locals went elsewhere. Our personal favorite was Holden Beach. It's much less commercial, and we loved it there.

Sorry I'm not much help with Myrtle itself. Enjoy your vacation!

If you are looking for decent prices and know the exact dates you are going, I would go ahead and book now. (I'd make sure you Trip Protection Insurance in case you need to cancel for whatever reason). The closer it is to summer it gets, the faster the rooms get books and prices go up, just like anywhere else. We go at some point every summer (2x last year, though I wanted to go again).  If you are going to spend a week there, I would consider looking into renting a vacation house. IMO, the hotels get pretty nasty in the summer with people going and coming from the beach and haven't dried off (mostly kids)... Summer will always be crowded for MB, so unfortunately there's no avoiding that. But it is a fun place to go and it's somewhere I don't think I will ever get tired of.

I recommend Broadway at the Beach. Lots of shopping and neat attractions. I also liked the Ripley's aquarium but didn't care for the other Ripley's attractions.

  • We stayed at Sandy Beach Resort and *loved* it.  We got a week long rental for I think $700.  We split it 4 ways with a couple friends.  It was a condo with a kitchen, ocean front, 1 bedroom with two queen beds and a pullout bed in the living room.

This was about 6 years ago though so I'm sure prices have changed... anyway, it's worth looking into!  For what we got, the price was fantastic.

  • Thank you guys !!

@amandarene112  yeah,  I was kinda starting to think that maybe Myrtle Beach isn't what we want,  but we like that we can fly there instead of spending 7 hours in the car to get to North Carolina.  Looksk like Oak Island NC is about 1.5 hour drive from the MB airport....so I can look into that too  :)

@ksz_3 I am going to check out this Broadway @ the beach and see what thats all about.    I would like to visit Myrtle Beach just to see what all the hub bub is about,  I just don't want to be bumping elbows with stranger when I am trying to swim  :)

@wishiwaspreggo I will check out this Sandy Beach Resort too,   I wish I had more friends that could split the cost of a house with us....lol.    My sis is due in April and my cousin is buying a house,  and thats the only people I could stand spending a whole week with   :)

    Thank you all again!!!  :)

  • If you are not sure about going to MB, you could look into Hilton Head Island.  It is not as overwhelming.  Nice beaches and great places to eat. You can fly into Sav GA, its about an hour drive from there.  Just a thought :)  Good luck!

  • I'm sure these guys will welcome you with open arms if you ask nicely :)

  • Try the North Myrtle/Cherry Grove area. It's more low key. We have friends that live there, so I don't have any places to stay for ya. Places to eat, though, I can help you with! Check out E Noodles, Georgio's Pizza, Oscar's, and Mammie's Kitchen.

  • I wouldn't stay anywhere in Myrtle Beach. The crowds are ridiculous. I suggest either Windy Hill (north of Myrtle), Garden City, Litchfield, or my fave - a beach house at Pawley's.

When you go, you should eat at Lee's Inlet Kitchen. They have the best hush puppies with honey butter. I think we are also going to try to make a trip this summer. I haven't been in years!

mmmmmm hush puppies.....between this and the burger conversation on 2WW, I am hungry!!!
