Conceited much??

So I just saw this post on Facebook by a relative, and I was floored! "I don't like taking my daughter out in public cause she's so cute people just walk up and stare at her and say obvious things like, Aww! She's sooo cute! Or, oh my, she's beautiful!... Like, HELLO, I know she's a pretty baby, she got the best features from both parent. Jeez thanks for the compliment but your making me uncomfortable standing close to me and my baby". I just want to tell them to get over themselves and take the compliment !!

  • I'm pretty sure people do this to ALL babies.  I agree with kellyjayne...you should post something snarky but true!

  • Try taking her beautiful baby to just about anywhere in Asia (assuming here that she and her baby are both caucasian).  When my sister was living in Saipan, the natives and all the Japanese tourists used to insist on taking pictures with my blond haired, blue eyed 3 year old niece.  The waiter/waitresses would carry her around the restaurants with them, it was insane.  Eventually they got used to it, but for a while there my sister didn't want to take her baby anywhere!  I love my child, and people tell me she is cute all the time, and I agree, but I also assume they are just being nice because what else do you say about someone else's baby?

I'm very antisocial, but I loved how DD would brighten people's day and would get compliments. I wasn't okay with them touching her, but people were more than likely to look, lol. That being said, I do the same to pretty much every baby, since I think they're all pretty cute, even the not-so-cute ones tend to be super smiley and aw-worthy.

Definitely just trying to get attention and more compliments. Some people are incredibly obnoxious.

  • OK, this is probably going to sound conceited, too, but...... Lincoln was spectacular as an infant. I literally couldn't run a simple errand without people stopping me. Some days it made me not want to leave the house and I even bought a sign for his carseat instructing people to "look but not touch." Every task took twice as long. My issue was that I am a germ-phobe. Maybe if the baby is really that cute it is true, but it sounds like she is fishing for compliments-a total turnoff. I just nodded and thanked people, never bragged about it. Humblesness is important to me so I might feel inclined to gently remind her to bring it back down to Earth. There are plenty of cute babies to go around.

What do they call this- bragplaining? something like that.

That is a completely obnoxious post.
I believe it is called the humble brag

  • @Rachel5130-my husband is Hispanic and it's a huge thing. My MIL used to tell me the story of when she was dancing with FIL, her aunt told her red shoes were beautiful and my MIL wouldn't let her touch them. Later that night she broke the heel on one of them and she had the worst leg cramps of her life. She never again went against ojo (I think that's how it's spelled) again!

oh god, I don't know what I'd do if someone touched my belly.  I about died in the past when random strangers (mostly old ladies) would touch my hair and tell me how pretty it was.
An old woman eating at Arby's once tugged on my husband's ponytail because she thought it was pretty. He then got "slapped" by her for claiming that he doesn't think my red hair is attractive. Finally, she asked us if 85 is too old to dye your hair cherry red. I told her she's only as old as she feels :) So much amusement that day.

@megk82 - do what I will do. Hiss. I'm not joking. Hiss like a cat. People take that shit seriously. And no one will want to touch you or your adorable baby. Problem solved.

LOL, my daughter does that when strangers say something to her (the hissing). (She's 3). They look at me like I've raised a little bitch, but I think it's freaking hilarious.

  • People will touch your belly. No doubt. It grosses me out but most people do it before you even have a chance to tell them not to!! Um, I'm not Buddha, ok?
