Yet another movement question...

I've been reading all the movement posts. I know some people feel them and others don't. So I'm a FTM at 17w2d. I have twinges and lots of different feelings In my uterus that I haven't had before. I attribute them to just a growing ute.

So how do you know it's the baby you're feeling? I am assuming I'll just know when it happens but maybe not?

Re: Yet another movement question...

  • With my first baby, I didn't just know, at least not initially.  Early movements were hard to distinguish from gas or other twinges.  But as I felt it more, I got better at telling them apart.  Plus as the baby gets bigger and stronger, it becomes more obvious.

  • I didn't know for sure it was baby in there until I felt her on the outside as well.  That happened at 18 weeks... so maybe it will be soon for you too!

  • I'm 17w3d and I've had a lot of weird feelings kinds like gas and sometimes probably gas but last night I got my first real kick. I could feel it with my hand. But if my hand hadn't been there at that second I don't know if I would have been so sure. It's super exciting but DH thinks I'm making it up cause he hasn't felt anything yet!

What's with the caps? I'm so confused.
Right. I mean that had to take some effort.
Exactly. I'm genuinely curious too. I've seen other people do it and it seems like so much extra effort just to be ignorant and annoying.

I read it like 5 times trying to see if there was a secret code hidden in the capital letters.
    OOOOO!  Maybe a skip code?

  • at first I wasn't sure the flutters were the baby (when I was a FTM) but over time as they occur more regularly you realize what it is - especially when you start getting poked by limbs :) dd loved wedging her legs into my ribs
  • In hindsight I realized what it felt like. It's actually smaller and less obvious then gas (unless I just have strong gas). It was like soda bubbles. Idk if this happened to others, but flutters and then kicking ramped up when I ate. I think I JUST felt something yesterday at 16 w 5 d. It could have been my imagination though.

  • Agghh!!! All of you people saying you're feeling flutters are killing me. I'm 18 wk tomorrow and I still don't think I've felt anything yet (unless I've missed it). I'm so jealous and can't wait to feel those flutters and kicks. My mom did tell me that she didn't feel anything with me until she was 18 wk and I was her 5th kid!
  • I have been feeling baby for a week and half now. I'm 17 weeks today!  I am very aware of my body so I know its not gas, plus there is no way I could possibly have this much gas and no outcome ;-) I think it feels like when your starving and your belly "growls".  I have a very active lil one, it's pretty amazing.  I can't wait for kicks!!!!
  • I'm 18 weeks, 3 days and I've been feeling flutters for a week, maybe a little longer?
At first I wasn't 100% it was baby, but I'm pretty sure it is now.

I tried to describe the movement to a friend, and to me they feel like ticklish little butterfly flutters but lower down in my abdomen.

And sometimes the baby is super active! Like right now, flipping all over place!!! It's pretty cool! I think hubby is jealous but I'm sure he will get to feel kicks eventually.

  • I'm a 17w6d FTM and felt baby move *for sure* just one time. I was laying in bed, when suddenly I felt a movement in my lower belly, more towards the left side. It was unlike anything I've ever felt before. The only thing I can think is baby did a flip or something. I can't wait to feel baby more often and for my DH to feel too. It makes me smile just thinking about it.

As of 16wks, I would only feel what I would think would feel like something swimming around in my ute. Like there is something in there but not really quite sure.

As of yesterday, 17w5d, I could actually feel little kicks. At one point, I felt the baby "schmear" itself across my lower abdomen. I can feel the baby's little kicks after I am active and sit down to relax. It's a pretty cool feeling.

    ETA missed a word

That seriously hurt my eyes to read.

For me, it took several nights of laying on my back in bed at night, with no distractions around for me to feel them. I actually had to focus at first, with my hand on my bump where I believed baby to be, before I felt anything. Feeling it from inside and outside at the same time helped confirm it for me. Early on, if you are distracted or busy, you will most likely not notice the little kicks.
