Preschool drop off help

DS1 has been going to preschool, twice a week for four hours, since September. The first few weeks were rough at drop off- crying, yelling no way, etc. After that it seemed like smooth sailing but the last three weeks have been torture. He's crying, refusing to walk into the classroom and every day it seems to get a little worse. They tell me he calms down after I leave but it's still tough. I'm just curious why it's happening again, after we've had months of no tears. Has anyone experienced this? Any advice? I dread drop off now!

  • No advice or experience here... But sorry mama, that's gotta be pure torture!

  • Have they changed up the teachers in the room? Or have they changed the routine in the room? That could be causing the issues.
  • That sounds really tough. Is it possible he's not getting along with someone in his class?

Agree with PP that a change in the classroom routine might also cause an upset.  Have they gotten any new helpers or aides in his class?  I'd press the teachers to find out if something is new or different.

  • Nothing different that I'm aware of. He loves the teachers and talks about the other kids. He just tells me he wants to stay home. When I pick him up, he's happy and playing. I just don't get the sudden seperation anxiety.
  • I'm sorry Mama - that's really rough. Even with her big sister across the hall, DD2 has her days where she doesn't want to go either.
As long as he's fine after you leave, I would say not to worry about it too much.
