Success after IF

Back from Peri. Please tell me I'm worrying about nothing.

We went today to a f/u u/s.  Unfortunately we didn't get to see my Peri, I saw her partner, who I hate.  She is a very unpleasant woman with no bedside manners.  She didn't adequately answer my questions and she rushed us out of there.

Anyway, according to her everything looks good, except we couldn't get some heart details, so we have to come back in four weeks.  Oh, and it's a girl, which was definitely a surprise.

Here's the concerning part:  I requested the little printout with all of our measurements.  Everything they measured was measuring ahead - ranging from 1 to 6 days ahead, and the 50-80 percentiles.  Then there's the cerebellum measurement.  We're 16 weeks today and it measured 15w5d.  Measuring two days behind doesn't concern me, what concerns me is that the percentile for this measurement was 14.5%???  I asked both the tech and the peri about this and they both said this was normal, the peri said they only start getting concerned if it falls less than the -2%.

Like I said before, the peri said everything is fine, but I can't help but wonder why we have one measurement so much less than the others.  Has anyone heard of this?  I know I haven't.  Does anyone have more info on this?

 Thanks!

  • First, congratulations on your daughter!  Very exciting!

I have not heard of that (I didn't even see any printouts of ours), but I'd take her at her word.  It sounds like from what you've described she doesn't have a very good bedside manner to assuage any fears.  I'm sure your other doc would have gone more in-depth about explaining the measurement and what it means.  Will your regular doc be back tomorrow?  I'd try to get in touch with her to ask about it.

  • I'm sure my baby head is never at the exact gestation as the rest of the body and they never had any concern. Congrats on the little girl!!
  • You are worrying over nothing. First off, it is rare for perinatologists to give you a print out of measurements for the reason that we are not trained medical professionals and we would probably start "googling."  If both the peri and tech BOTH said the measurement was normal, then you have to trust them.  Just b/c you think the peri has a poor bedside manner does not mean that she would deceive you.  So, lift your mood -- forget about the 14.5%, since they both said it was normal -- and celebrate that you are having a GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I know it is hard not to obsess about this (I am the same way), but I agree that you have to trust the medical professionals on this. They would not hide anything from you if they thought there was something to be concerned about. Congrats on your baby girl!
  • Yay!  Congrats on your daughter!

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • That's perfectly normal. Not that you have a history of worrying about everything or anything but sometimes you just need to take the Dr's word for it and roll with it. :) Sounds like you're right on track which is great!!

  • Yay! Congrats on your baby GIRL :) How exciting!!

I don't know anything about those measurements.......but I think if the peri says they are fine, then leave it at that and enjoy the fact that you get to buy PINK this time!!!

  • I had the same freakout over the cisterna magna measurement on my u/s, but it was closer to the rest of the measurements by the next u/s.
