  I have the same question as gidget967! (And hopefully since you posted a year ago you might be able to help me!)
  I'm looking for an eco friendly crib for a moderate price! (Certainly less than $1000, but hopefully closer to $500). Ideally I'd like to get a set with a dresser.

  Baby Appleseed- They make one for Buy buy baby called the Strattford that is much more reasonable then their normal cribs. The crib runs 299.99 their other cribs are in the 600 range.

  if you are ok with 500-800 or so as a price tag, check out the Oeuf cribs. I purchased the Robin crib for DS, but I think it has been discontinued, sadly. Their cribs are made out of hardwood, not pine, so they are less likely to have bite marks if you have a crib eater on your hands.

  I just did a ton of research on this as well.  I started looking at the Young America line, though I didn't like the look of them despite the great safety ratings.  I searched a lot about solid wood and unfinished wood cribs.  Brands like Stokke and Dwell Studio have beautiful wooden ones, but they are almost $1000...  The Land of Nod has some beautiful ones made by reputable furniture makers, though they are in the 600-800 range just for a crib.  I was suspicious of some cribs that were labeled "lead and phthalate safe," not free.  However, upon further investigation, I found that ALL furniture products under the Million Dollar Baby umbrella (DaVinci, Franklin and Ben, Babyletto, etc) are made of solid wood and have only trace amounts of the toxins in the glue in the joints of the products.  It was so low I was put at ease and willing to go ahead with the purchase of a DaVinci crib set myself (about 750 for crib and dresser).  Avoid choosing a crib with drawers, though, as they might contain particle board that releases chemicals.

  I guess it depends how "green" you want it. We have a Da Vinci, they make all their cribs from sustainable pine wood and phthalate-free finishes. I consider that green enough for me The price is great usually between $120-200 for a crib.
