Hello all, I pretty much stay over on July 13 but had a question to ask you guys.
DD1 is about 6.5 months and has been FF since 6 weeks. I am due in June with another little girl, and was wondering if DD1 could try breastfeeding again. Obviously she will be eating a lot more solids so she won't eat that much, but will it interfere with DD2's supply? I'm assuming my body will compensate? Would there be any health benefit at all from doing this?
I've been thinking about this ever since DD1 latched on her own while snuggling with me at bedtime a few weeks ago. She's only done it a handful of times, but it seems to be comforting for her..
I would also recommend pumping extra and giving it to your older child. That's what I do. DS1 is 3 and I mix BM in his oatmeal, and his regular milk. I don't see the point in teaching your older child to latch after not BF'ing for so long.
@JandACoffee - Ah, sorry, that was worded strangely. I have no milk but she nursed for a few minutes before bedtime one night on her own. Comfort nursing, I guess?
Thanks for the info. I never thought about pumping LO's bottles once my supply comes in. That's a great idea, especially if DD1 doesn't remember how it's done. I'd like to pump anyway so that DH can occasionally bottle feed DD2 MOTN after a few weeks of EBF.
@JuneBug86 - DD1 not remembering what to do was definitely a concern. I feel silly for not thinking of pumping. Duh!! It's good to know that it's possible to give LO benefits of BM again. I felt pretty badly that things didn't work out well with BF when she was born.
Re: Reintroducing breastfeeding at 12 months??
