Rx other than Zofran or Diclegis for m/s?

Is there anything else that can be offered?

My friend is pregnant, a few weeks ahead of me. She is still vomiting multiple times a day. She's been to the ER for fluids twice. Her doctors office has only offered her Zofran and or B6. They've just told her she's just more sensitive to the hormones.

I told her to do the Unisom/B6 combo if they won't prescribe her Diclegis, but other than that, is there anything else she could request?

She is very, very miserable.

I have had thus far zofran, reglan, and compazine, b6/unisom . None worked for me until January when Zofran became my magic pill so I had to suffer through getting IV fluids every 3 days and just eat what I can and try to function. But these other meds have worked for many other ladies.

I can't see why they wouldn't offer her the Diclegis if she asked, it's the safest option and seems to work well for a lot of people. If I don't take it, I'm still puking into week 15- if I take it- voila! Just make sure she receives it from the pharmacy in the box- there is a coupon there so you don't have to pay more than $30- otherwise, it's REALLY expensive.

A Zofran pump is also an option. If she is still vomiting multiple times per day, the pump should be offered to her.

There is also Zofran ODT, which is a sublingual tablet that would dissolve under her tongue. Most of these medications also come in suppository form.

Bottom line, there are a number of options out there and if she isn't being offered them, she needs to find a new doctor.

I have to second the advice to get Diclegis. I am still on Diclectin (same as Diclegis, it's just goes under a different name in Canada) and it works so well for me.

Only other thing listed in my "mommy manual" from doc is Ginger.

I forgot phenergan on my meds list. The zofran pump is not always offered esp if zofran hasn't worked in other dosages. My docs wouldn't because the dissolving tab nor tablets worked for me at all at the time and I was barfing non-stop. At least with a few moms I know going through hyper-m with me the pump was given when the smaller dosages started wearing off faster but still working a little. The pump give a more consistent and often higher daily dosage.

I tried zofran, reglan, phenergan and diclegis (plus B6, ginger, anti-nausea pressure point wrist bands, etc, etc) and nothing worked. I was in and out of the hospital many times over with intractable vomitting and dehyration. In the end what worked was vistaril. They only gave it to me when they ran out of everything else, but it really helped!!
